Dennis Horner sighting

Dennis Horner, and his tatoo, made ESPN’s Top 10 for a blocked shot in an NBA D-League game league. He’s averaging a solid 15 points an 7.7 rebounds a game playing alongside Clemson’s James Mays for the Springfield Armor.

Thank God the Springfield Armor did not have another #31 on their roster!

You may remember that Horner got some nice playing time for the (then) New Jersey Nets last season. He’s clearly one of our most favorite Wolfpackers of the last ten years; and, I would LOVE to have seen him on this year’s Wolfpack roster playing in Coach Gottfried’s high-post offense. You can click here for Horner’s tag from our message forums that followed hi career some last year.

While we are talking about Wolfpackers in the NBA, I heard that Coach Gottfried had Nate McMillan come in and talk to the team yesterday. That is a great move on all fronts; and, it is very nice to hear that the program is finding ways to keep our most valuable and well-liked alums close.

I always liked Horner and felt like he got too much flack for the tattoo. Who knows? It could have been one of those late night drunken things.

I felt like Horner grew every year he was in uniform. I respected that he stuck out his commitment, worked hard and was a very solid starter by his senior year.

Put in the current system and I actually think he could have been terrific. He’s obviously got some skills that translate as he’s staying around in the D League.

    Go get ’em Dennis!

His hard “not in my house” foul in the RBC Center against UNC at game’s end gives him a special place in Wolfpack sports.

I hope he makes it to wherever he’s trying to go.

61- I believe you are thinking of Ben McCauley. If you are referring to the game where one of UNx’s scrubs was going to dunk the ball at the end of a blowout, and McCauley gave him the business resulting in a tussle, and then inexplicably Roy was somehow given the power to kick his own player out of the gym.

I was thinking the other day how good our team would be with say a Horner and a Cam Bennerman to flesh out the existing roster. Unstoppable.
