Doeren’s coaching staff complete!

We’ve been following Coach Doeren’s football staff hirings on both the main SFN blog as well as in real time on our message forums.

With this report that Dunn native and former NC State linebacker, Clayton White, is returning to Raleigh, Coach Dave Doeren has completed his new coaching staff.

Other than White, Dave Huxtable (Pitt & significant past ACC experience) and Des Kitchens (NC State), the rest of the new staff includes four assistants that have followed Coach D from Northern Illinois and two assistants that coached at Wisconsin last year but were on Doeren’s staff at NIU in 2011. Here is a quick briefing of recent developments – partly quoted from here.

  • Eddie Faulkner, who spent last season at Wisconsin, will coach the Wolfpack tight ends and fullbacks and serve as special teams coordinator.
  •

  • Former NFL wide receiver Frisman Jackson will coach the same position for the Wolfpack. Jackson spent last season on Doeren’s staff at Northern Illinois.
  •

  • Desmond “Des” Kitchings will remain on the Wolfpack staff as running backs coach. Kitchings coached running backs and tight ends for the Wolfpack in 2012.
  •

  • Matt Canada has joined the staff as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Canada comes to the Wolfpack from Wisconsin, where he spent the 2012 season in that same position.
  •

  • Dave Huxtable, a 31-year coaching veteran, has joined his staff and will serve as defensive coordinator. Huxtable comes to Raleigh after spending last season as defensive coordinator at Pitt.
  •

  • Mike Uremovich is a former head coach with offensive coordinator experience.
  •

  • Richard McNutt brings a lot of excitement and a strong recruiting reputation. He won a National Championship at Ohio State and has coached in the NFL (Cleveland Browns) and at Northern Illinois, Kent State, Ohio State and Toledo.
  •

  • Jason Veltkamp comes from the SEC’s Arkansas, and he worked with Urban Meyer and Kyle Whittingham on championship teams at Utah. He also was at Louisville with Bobby Petrino when they one a Big East championship.
  •

Defense
Dave Huxtable – Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers
Ryan Nielson – Defensive Line and Recruiting Coordinator
Clayton White – To Be Announced
Richard McNutt – Cornerbacks

Offense
Matt Canada – Offensive Coordinator
Mike Uremovich – Offensive Line
Frisman Jackson – Wide Receivers
Des Kitchens – Running Backs
Eddie Faulkner – Tight Ends, Fullbacks & Special Teams
Jason Veltkamp – Strength and Conditioning

A couple of final notes:

  • Rumors around campus indicate that former NC State linebacker, Clayton White, is in the mix for a job on Doeren’s staff. That would awesome!! White played for about three years in the NFL and is currently on staff at UConn. He is originally from Eastern North Carolina (Dunn) and would be a great addition to the staff. (Link to biography)
  •

  • Former NC State assistant, Mike Reed, has accepted a job on staff at Clemson. (Click here for more discussion)

Nice summary of the new staff, but Dunn is not in eastern NC. It’s on the I-95 corridor.

Conneticut newspaper reporting White is leaving for NC State. He has coached under some good coaches, in many different positions, and lets be honest…nice to have an alum come home again.

In just under 20 days Coach D has landed a nice staff that I think will do some good things at NC State.

It’ll be interesting to see what this crew can achieve with the talent on hand next season. Who knows, we might even see an unexpected play called on offense a time or two.

So when Coach D impressed DY with his list of top assistant coaches he would hire that was five deep. You think that was actually just his Christmas card list.

    End of 2012 checklist:

    1) State playing in a bowl game? Check.

    2) Need new head football coach? Check.

    3) New head football coach has his entire staff in place before end of 2012 (and before bowl games)? Check.

    4) Legitimate excitement over new football staff? Check.

    5) UNC-CHEAT still making utter fools of themselves publicly? Check.

    6) Continued likelihood of further undoing of the UNC-CHEAT corruption system? Check.

    7) No truth to idiotic misreadings of Mayan astronomers? Check.

    8) State fans more optimistic about 2013 football, basketball, and baseball since perhaps anytime since 1970s? Check.

    9) Bball team making steady improvement towards a successful and exciting year? Check.

    10) A. D. Yow continuing to make apparently good decisions to undo decades of mediocrity and incompetence in State’s athletics? Check.

    Have a happy holiday season!

Stupid question: Will Doeren and company coach in the Music City Bowl, or will some remnant of O’Brien’s staff be on the sidelines?

zwolf, it has been reported AND repeated a gazillion times: Bible will be coaching the bowl game. The new staff will not be. Doeren has said that he will be in the box to watch the game.

It is truly great to have competent adults leading out athletic department now. The Wisconsin fans are still whining about Canada getting away even to the point of calling it unethical.

Smart move by our administration and Coach D to get his guy, pay him well, and make sure (given the fact he is coaching through Rose Bowl) that he makes it difficult for Wisconsin to poach him away.

Not sure it matters to this story but Dunn is considered part of eastern NC. It resides in one of the 42 counties that make up eastern NC.
