Homecoming 2012 – UVa @ NC State

As the N&O said, it’s crunch time for the ‘underperforming’ Wolfpack (Link)

N.C. State (5-3) has been very good after a loss, 10-1 since 2010, and the Cavaliers (2-6), losers of six straight, have been bad in just about every scenario since September

Virginia hasn’t won an ACC game this year. NC State has only lost one game in the last three years at home. Please tell me that it isn’t time for “NC State Shit” to make an appearance!

Why NC State Might Win: The Pack has more depth and talent, but especially on passing downs.

Mike Glennon brings stability and downfield potential to the NC State passing game, something Virginia has lacked all year. Glennon is a next-level quarterback, with a cadre of gifted receivers, such as Bryan Underwood, Quintin Payton and Tobais Palmer. That trio could have its way with a Cavaliers secondary that’s allowed 14 touchdown passes and picked off just one. The Cavs will also be on high alert whenever their own quarterback drops back to throw. The Pack ranks No. 12 nationally in sacks, producing pressure from myriad different angles.

What To Watch Out For: There are plenty of reasons why Virginia has struggled in 2012. Shaky special teams. Turnovers. The Cavaliers rank 120th in the nation in turnover margin, collecting just four takeaways in eight games. On the other side of the field, this could be a banner game for that Wolfpack secondary, which will be closely watching the eyes of Sims. CB David Amerson may not have blown up the way he did in 2011, but he remains an elite pass defender, who’s liable to increase his ACC lead in interceptions.

What Will Happen: State will need to have a short memory after last week’s gut-wrenching loss. Glennon and head coach Tom O’Brien will make sure of it.

The Pack is a veteran team that’s grown accustomed to the ebbs and flows of a campaign. They’ll rebound in a hurry against a Virginia squad that lacks the talent and the motivation to pull a road upset. Glennon will throw a pair of scoring strikes, while the defense harasses Sims into repeated mistakes. State will easily win the turnover margin, coasting in the second half of a comfortable victory.

NC State 31
Virginia 16

As for TOB = if you got paid a boat load of money for average results would you leave? I wish I had a job like that.

  2. Wolfpack93 11/03/2012 at 1:46 PM #

Well, UVA only needed a half to get their 16. Now we get a half to score 31. Could happen, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

#ncstateshit. Let’s just all cross our fingers and hope this football season fills the quota for #ncstateshit, so there is no need for the once annual plague of high ankle sprains.

Coach, “penalties are what is killing us”. I would agree, but doesn’t it seem more than that? They are never ready to play. Always coming scrambling from behind. Don’t seem to be able to anticipate that the opponent is going to do something different. Or if they do, is not coming out on the field.

This is the biggest second half of the season. If the Pack isn’t able to come back today, I’m not sure how they will finish the rest of the season. With Wake, Clemson and BC left to play I don’t see any of those as an easy W the way State plays. Wake always gives State a fit. I don’t see Clemson losing this year. BC is down, but they have enough to put up a fight.

Remind me again why Clemson parted ways with Tommy? He’s looking good during the halftime show compared to TOB…

Anyone looks better at the moment

  7. Primewolf 11/03/2012 at 2:10 PM #

TOB has assembled one of the slowest defenses in the ACC. We are getting tooled.

  8. BureauOfMines 11/03/2012 at 2:38 PM #

I watched 5 minutes of the first half of this fiasco. I just walked back in to see us trailing 23 to nothing in the 3rd quarter. Why didn’t TOB just forfeit the game instead? It would have been less embarrassing.

  9. Primewolf 11/03/2012 at 2:44 PM #

We will be 5-4 shortly. There is no energy The coaches and players haven’t showed up.

This is first game I have ever actually turned off and calmly went about my day doing other things. I’m not ever really mad or upset…

  11. NCSU84 11/03/2012 at 2:53 PM #

5-4 is a winning record. Yay!!

  12. vtpackfan 11/03/2012 at 2:58 PM #

Nice trick play INT. Impossible to score 4 X in the fourth with this crew anyway.

I would suggest, and I will be including a letter to Dr. Yow, that any extra contributions be made to WPC if James Franklin is zeroed in as the saviour.

  13. eas 11/03/2012 at 3:00 PM #

Numb….that is the only feeling I get with this team. Nothing against the players at all but our coaching and game prep is just horrid.

  14. packbacker17 11/03/2012 at 3:06 PM #

Does anybody have the number for Charlie Strong? Its Time for TOB to graciously step down! We have seen his best days and they were at BC.

  15. RedRiver 11/03/2012 at 3:11 PM #

At work and just checked the score… you have got to be f’ing kidding me.

  16. gcpack 11/03/2012 at 3:12 PM #

Mass exodus late 3rd qtr. Unwinterize your beach house TOB. And if all we can get is james franklin then shut it down and refill this place with water. Turn it back to a farm pond.
No use in continuing this halfassed attempt at fielding a football team.

As always, i am awed by your ability to predict the future – “N C State shit” indeed.

  18. WolftownVA81 11/03/2012 at 3:40 PM #

Left in the 4th with 13 minutes left after the interception. First time ever. This team has quit. On the plus side we got great seats for the basketball game. Fire the football staff now Debbie.

  19. jljones 11/03/2012 at 5:44 PM #

Totally agree with most of the comments–I predicted we would play flat because that is TOB’s history. I am not upset because I knew what was coming. TOB has lost the team even though the talent isn’t there. It will take the next coach years to dig out of this mess. As TOB would say “OBVIOUSLY OR CERTAINLY”. We all know and have known this situation should have been addressed 3 years ago by making a change.

  20. HPWolf 11/03/2012 at 6:19 PM #

i couldnt watch anymore so i left with 5 minutes still on the clock. State played with no heart and no enthusiasm today. It looled like the hangover from the carolina loss was still on the team. Thats TOB’s fault and i have been a TOB supporter but DAMN. if Debbie can get Petrino she should call him right now.

  21. mak4dpak 11/03/2012 at 6:43 PM #

At the game and the team was flat and emotionless. What an embarrassment to a Virginia team that was winless in the ACC. Bet FSU wished the team that has played after beating them, would have shown up for their game. Just f—ing unbelieveable. . Debbie Yow, please put us out of our misery. Too much money invested in our football program to tolerate this anymore. Please fire TOB, even if they won the rest of the games left, which won’t happen. The fans deserve better!

  22. gopack 17 11/03/2012 at 8:06 PM #

I think everyone is pretty much DONE at this point. That was just flat out embarrassing today, I sat in the stands until about 3 minutes left. We have absolutely no reason to stay the course under this regime. I like many would rather go through more “rebuilding” and see some passion displayed. Debbie please make a change……..or your fan base will.

  23. Prowling Woofie 11/03/2012 at 9:15 PM #

Only stuck around so I could see the basketball game afterwards.

Worst football game I’ve sat through since the UVa game in the freezing rain back in the early 90’s (91 or 93?), with Terry Kirby and Co.

    Enough. Uncle. No Mas.

Flat ??? The fu&*ing team was CONCAVE !!!!!!

    Debbie – please…

  24. jpack 11/03/2012 at 10:59 PM #

TOB, please do me a big favor. The next time you’re not going to prepare your team to play or if the team decides it’s not going to show up, please let the fans know in advance so we don’t waste the money, time or effort to make the trek to C-F to witness another listless, pathetic performance like you mailed in today.

  25. JohnGalt78 11/04/2012 at 12:04 AM #

Great tailgating. Great weather. That’s all the positives I can think of. Left the game at 2 mins left in third to enjoy the two aforementioned positives. TOB RIP
