Pack beats Terps 20-18!

It wasn’t pretty, and if you saw it you probably used a lot of profanity in the second half, but State finally caught a break in College Park and after a wild final 5 minutes, goes home with TOB’s first-ever division road win and still in control of the Atlantic Divison.

Box Score

Go Miami vs. FSU tonight.

More to come soon…

Under TOB we played just like all of TOB,s previous teams that won a big games–like s–t. He and his staff are lazy and won’t put the effort needed for ALL games–just those he feels he needs to keep his job. We looked like we had no interest in winning as did our so called head coach. FIRE THE ENTIRE CREW NOW.

The block in the back was a shitty call. And sorry for being negative about the W. I played ball through college and I’m also a coach, and yes a W is a W, but when you win like we did tonite there is not much to be excited about. Count your blessings and move forward and accept the challenge for the game to rest in your own hands rather than the other teams.

I too feel like it’s Lowes last year all over again. I’ve never felt so down about a win. But it’s the same crap over and over. Damn, I wasn’t going to go their but the sun shine crew just drug it out of me. I just don’t see much to celebrate about today’s game. We played like crap most of the game and won because their kicker missed a chip shot.

OMG…..DOOK is winning. UNC is gonna be MAD next week!

What team gets a lead with 30 seconds and lets the other team with a brand new true freshman qb drive to get a 33 yard field goal. Am I the only one who is angry after wins.

I, luckily, was able to take my son and attend today’s game. Not having seen the Pack in person for the past 2 years, coupled with the inability to hear anything on the radio or TV, I probably missed some more pertinent observations. But let me share what I saw today and open it up to interpretation:

    1) I don’t understand why our defensive backfield is so porous. We had three rather mediocre quarterbacks hit wide open receivers on key third down plays all game long. Yeah, Amerson made a nice interception and (apparent) touchdown, but that was just about the only decent play all day. Giving up a 33-yard, wide open pass with less than a minute to play made me think about Miami all over again. Arghhh!

    2) I didn’t understand the loyalty to Creecy when Thornton just looked like a better back. Thornton sparked that 2nd quarter drive for a score. Creecy didn’t look comfortable all day, and made a bad Maryland run defense look good.

    3) Even though Glennon played well enough to win a game (and made some nice throws under pressure), I thought that we were way too predictable in our play calling. Forty-seven attempts? Is that our best bet to win?

    4) Special teams played wonderfully. Aside from the obvious game that Sade played, I think the punting and kickoffs were very well covered. I cannot remember how many fair-catches the latest Maryland rocket (Diggs) called, but it was a lot. It was key that HE didn’t beat us. Kudos to special teams.

    5) Once again, we managed to turn 2nd/3rd team players into heros for the Terps. Maryland’s quarterbacks cannot throw at all, but we couldn’t contain the scrambles. Why we didn’t do a better job “staying home” and forcing them to throw the ball was beyond me. Maryland only attempted 7 passes in the 2nd half, but managed to score 15 points (and should have had more) and gain most of their yards on the ground. Not a great job of changing to gameplan to account for an obvious switch to a running game.

    6) Enough complaining about a win – the team gutted-out a victory, kept their cool under a tough and loud Homecoming crowd in College Park, and won a Division game on the road. Great job, Pack! The best part? I actually had four different Maryland fans come up to me (I was obviously rooting for the Pack) and tell me that the team played well and won with class. A great reflection on our university and our team.

    Go Pack!!

I am sorry. Some of you just deserve to pull for a losing team.

I don’t know what you were expecting this year, but if you would have told me in august we would be 2-1 in the acc at this point I would take it.

Congrats to Duke! Made today a banner day. I sure won’t be talking any trash this week. I’ll just smile and listen to the tarholes spew their sh$@. Afraid we are going to get our asses kicked if we play the way we did today. Goodness knows they will be inspired and ready to play dirty.

Go Pack. I’m not hopeful for next week but I’ve felt that way the past 5 years before the game and was thrilled to walk out of the stadiums with the 5 wins. Let’s make it 6!

  13. choppack1 10/20/2012 at 10:44 PM #

Wolfpack_83 I think we played very well on d in the first half. Then, we knocked the qb we prepared for all week…I also think the bobbled snap on punt helped change the tenor of the game.

But most importantly, as you noted, our guys showed guts and heart. Did we get lucky, definitely, but its time we got some good ones.

No what I don’t understand is people who get on here expecting sunshine and daisy talk like we are ignorant UNC fans. It was a shit lucky ass tried to piss it away game…period. Yes I’m glad we won, but thoughtful analysis says we played like crap in thirty something seconds and nearly gave the game away. Glennon needs to get his shit together and play a complete game. AND AT THE VERY LEAST, TOB should be given the choice of replacing HIS OLD ASS STAFF or he gets fired. Apparently they are lazy shits who only try for a couple of games and games like this take a snooze. My god MD was on their last leg at QB and the damn waterboy comes in and throws for big yardage against this bullshit defense. Amerson getting that pick was the WORST thing that could have happened. Think he want be biting next week? Goof freaking luck. There’s your frickin sunshine.

Sorry I missed the game. I was watching a team win that kept playing all 60 minutes. Even when the chips were down, they kept digging. Fortunately, at the end of the game I watched a little luck came our way for once. It must have been karma for all the injured linemen we’ve had.

At the game, and the only positive, the most important one was, we won. However if we had played like that against FSU, we would have lost. Cant’ understand the up/down performances I see. Why can’t we show up for every game. And can’t TOB find some new staff after this season. Bible/Archer, you suck! LUCK won this one.

Mak4pak – you play or played sports right?

You been watching south Carolina the last 2 weeks?

College football is an emotional game. Home field advantage is huge, especially when talent is close. I

We have good coaches. I don’t think they are great coaches. If they were the best in the business they wouldn’t be in raleigh, or at least not for long.

  18. mak4dpak 10/21/2012 at 12:00 AM #

I don’t watch USC. I do follow the pack, and see how they tend to play to their competition. No excuses. TOB finally wins a divisional road game? That is not the players, that is coaching. They are the mentors to these players, and get out of it what they apply to it. Not much this week. But nevertheless a win. But try this in Chapel Hell, and it will be hell for us.

If the ACC doesn’t suspend the hole player for at least one game, I will be offended, as should every other ACC team, not baby blue.

    On Creecy getting carries.

Did Thornton get injured in the second quarter?

I remember him limping off or holding his arm after a play in the 2nd quarter and I don’t think he came back.

As far as this win goes, I really felt we should’ve been up by 2 TD’s for most of this game and cruised to a win. I have no clue why our offense was so stagnant for most of the game and why the defense couldn’t adjust to a change in quarterbacks.

What irks my about this coaching staff is that after the Amerson INT got called back, we had the ball on our 40 yard line, with 43 seconds and 3 timeouts. We run it three times, instead of trying to score. And then coaching staff decides to use its timeouts to force Maryland to punt, when they try to run the clock out.

I don’t have a good feeling about next week. Next week is all UNC-CHeat has to play for, especially after the Duke loss and this coaching staff shows no sense of urgency.

  22. choppack1 10/21/2012 at 12:16 AM #

Yes, obviously tob tries to lose Atlantic road games, while somehow going 5-2 vs. Coastal on the road.

You should probably watch follow college football more closely, our performance will make more sense to you.

We are a team that is built on not making mistakes and giving up big plays. When we dont turn the ball over and do stupid crap, we win a lot more than we lose. When we make lots of mistakes, we lose. We lost to ut and Miami because we made a lot of mistakes. We beat Fsu because we didn’t. We won today because we had a better kicker.

  23. ancsu87 10/21/2012 at 1:17 AM #

Give it up Choppack1. I am just glad I watched the game and knew that we won because if I didn’t I would have thought we lost it basis the comments on here.

On any given day especially when playing on the road. Did anyone think UF would beat the hell out of USC? Fire Steve Spurrier … they suck…his OC sucks…his DC sucks..everybody associated with him sucks ….

Always a good day when the Pack wins and the CHeaters lose. Get ’em Saturday. Go Pack!!!!

I have been to every game except the Miami game. So can’t follow anymore closely than that. Were it not for luck, we should have lost to Maryland. We get up for big games, and play down to teams like Maryland. Game preparation. That is on the coaching, and some of the play calling on both sides of the ball was quite questionable. And from the fans around me, I wasn’t the only one feelin that way. But I will again follow closely next week, and be at the game.
