O’Brien plays for overtime, risks losing his job

I’m not even going to complain about the two different holding calls on the return that would’ve negated the run.

We deserve to lose when we called such an AWFUL game after getting up ten points in the second half.

Ron Cherry totally sucks as a official but even his terrible officiating did not cause this loss. Missed blocks and tackles, lots of dropped passes and mistakes by the players but lots of blame for the coaches as well. You had to know what was coming when we got the lead….conservative play calling from Bible and then not even trying to get to field goal range with 1:30 and all three TOs left. I hope DY is going through her list of coaching candidates.

I agree. Trust her. I want to win ACC and National titles just like we all do but it is a building process be careful on drastic ideas. HUNGERY LIKE THE WOLF.

I say make a mental note every year at the bitching and whining after every lose/lucky win. Why???? Because next year at the same time we will have the same issue. I completely get why Boston College fans said just wait and see. Good man, tight ship program but everything else sucks! Every year it is a broken record of the previous year. Mediocre season and just enough wins to get in a $hitty bowl game. Consistently conservative is what you get with TOB. The comment he made about the punter was just plain stupid.

TOB is the same every year. If you are good with that than I am happy for you. However, I would like to strive for a little better myself.

Would the drop passes if caught helped us? Of course they would have but that is not where the game was lost. It was lost during the halftime interview TOB gave on TV when he said that Glennon was going to have to keep playing well. His problem is he really has no confidence with anyone else and it shows. How hard is it to understand that eventually if you keep throwing the ball without even attempting a run it will get picked off. The last or next to the last drive in the first half to me showed how this coaching staff is so much out of touch with reality.

Is that really what it is all about just getting to a bowl to keep his job? Because if that is so with him he can do that without blinking an eye. It is real simple people. If you want to keep going to a bowl game and play the 4th or 5th place team in a conference he is your guy. If you want to not just upset FSU every few years but play for the conference title then come to as close to a 100% unity with fellow Pack fans and demand nothing less than our basketball program seems to be headed.

Simple question on recruiting. Who recruited Glennon? GO STATE

When you intentionaly play perilously close to the edge you are bound to fall off sometime.

When you have a team on the ropes when you’re up 10 points you go for the f*cking kill and we once again did not do that today. We operated like a well-oiled machine in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and moved the ball willingly. Mike Glennon was reading the field and throwing the ball like it was a video game being played. I just don’t understand how our coaches can get it so right and then turn around and relapse. Hats off to the o-line and Glennon. They played outstanding for the most part. Enjoy the rest of your weekends and don’t stress it too much. The sun will rise tomorrow and hopefully an entire new coaching staff is on the horizon.

Same old stuff for 6 years. We just have to get used to average Football if we keep him.

I am so looking forard to our basketball season as well as the rest of what the football team can still do. The fact is we are better today than we have been and Yow will get us even better.

Just want to remind folks after Shadrach picked up the first down with ~4 minutes to go we where we ran three times in a row we followed that with THREE PASSES IN A ROW. That isn’t conservative play calling and we didn’t move the ball. You guys just assume had we gone for it we would have won or something. It’s just as likely we throw more incompletions and they still drive down the field and score for the win.

TOB is what he is. He runs a clean 8-win program. To get to the next “level” without stooping to the level of the ‘holes, we MUST recruit better. Bring in the caliber of assistant coaches who can do this and TOB will look like the next Joe Paterno. Works for Gott!

  16. Cabin Creek Wolf 10/27/2012 at 5:50 PM #

We’ll never know, Smasher. But I’m quite certain near 100% of folks on this site wanted a qb who had passed for over 400 yds and 5TD’s and led a late game winning drive against FSU should have had a chance!

    Folks,
No one, not even the smartest and the MOST CONNECTED of the folks here have a clue as to WHAT is going to happen as to TOB’s future. Last week’s “Hope he Hooks it) FG had to be duly noted by Dr. DY. Also, the loss of old MO in this game. You do NOT have to be a football coach to understand the dynamics….and Dr. DY WAS a BB Coach, so she “gets” the dynamics of how to win.

TOB’s future is now in the iffy category, IMHO. Not so much from today’s fiasco, but the overall state of the program.

BUT, if he fields a team that runs the table and we get to a nice Bowl game, then we will be writing the SAME things next year. His contract expires at the END of the 2013 season.

If we fold for the rest of the season, then even I could figure out what to do.

It MIGHT come down to how much MONEY she has in her Kitty. If she has some surplus (which the BB team should generate) then she might retire TOB Early. If financial times are tight, then she’ll let the contract run out.

The ONLY Positive thing out of this game was that we DO have the talent, when it is working as a team, really play well.

I am in the land of SEC and XM was the only thing I could get. It sounded, on the UNC Network….which is about 1000% better after Woody retired…..that we really looked good…..but just lost our way.

Giovani will be the ACC POW and well, if I heard correctly, should be.

SO…..have another margarita and chill out. The SUN will come up tomorrow. At least in NC, we are NOT going to be greeted by Sandy. That lady done gonna be UGLY….

I take it as a good omen that we will beat them in basketball in Dean E Smith center this year.

We didn’t lose because of play calling, we lost because, overall, we are incompetent. I can’t imagine the situation where we can actually take a game into overtime. We’ve had two (losses) where we thought we were there, but allowed the other team to win on a rediculously incompetent response.

I too have had it with TOB; saddly, we will finish 8-4 where the Calton Tudor clowns of the world (he’s already published an article on the subject) will start mocking us if we’re anything but happy with the results.

This season was as good as it gets under this regime; we had the chance to be good. I followed this dream to Atlanta.

    I won’t get fooled again.

I’m sick at what I saw today on the last possession. But, when you play not to lose, you usually lose. TOB does not have the killer instinct. Don’t know how he cannot have that, haven’t been a marine. Unfortunately, it’s time for a change.

  21. tractor57 10/27/2012 at 5:58 PM #

Catch the f’ing ball and no worries but beyond that playing not to loose is a guaranteed fail.

  22. highstick 10/27/2012 at 6:01 PM #

Ron Cherry? Should have never even set foot on the field. If he’s there, we get screwed!

I followed the score on my phone the entire game and then things went beserk in the last couple of minutes. I can’t believe it happened that way.

  23. OldWolf76 10/27/2012 at 6:19 PM #

Adding Syracuse and Pitt next year makes this a much harder football conference. All year I have been thinking about that and the way TOB runs the PACK f’ballers. Hope he enjoys his off time! (go ahead media… tell us how hard Pack Fans are on coaches.Bad Attitude. Expectations too high. OBTW… media… observe what it has done for us beginning Nov 9th in the PNC Arena!!! GO PACK!)

I avoided putting on anything red, or with NC State both before the game and during the game. After the game was over, as my wife wanted to go to the grocery store, before I left the house I put on a white visor with the Red “S”. she asked me why I put that on. I said,”Because Fuc( them, that’s why!”.

Fuc( them, and Go Pack!!. I may hang my head over a game or over a coach, but I will never hang my head over my alma mater.
