O’Brien plays for overtime, risks losing his job

I’m not even going to complain about the two different holding calls on the return that would’ve negated the run.

We deserve to lose when we called such an AWFUL game after getting up ten points in the second half.

If this pattern continues I can see him retiring to his beach house at the end of the season. Hope Dr. Yow has his replacement lined up. She has done a great job of hiring thus far.

Wow. Can’t believe we gave that game away. Speechless really.

Crack Ride is going crazy with the Fire TOB crap. You guys can blame TOB all you want. It wasn’t his fault.

How many dropped passed, dropped pick 6’s, missed field goals and yes even poorly thrown balls before you guys actually point the finger at the players for a change?

People complain about the play calling, playing not win, yet when the play calling was to win some people want to criticise that and call that bad play calling.

The players fucked this one up people, not the coaches.

Un freaking believable!!! A minute and a half on the clock, three timeouts in your pocket, and we call three running plays, giving up and playing for overtime. Never seen anything like it! Don’t know who called it, but TOB is ultimately responsible. Once again, we proved how sorry we can be with clock management. I’m sick of this crap!

Good thing we still have 3 time-outs left……

    Insult collides with injury.
    UNX might not have
    to vacate this win.

The chance of TOB retiring at the end of this season has increased greatly.

I am completely disguested at what I just saw the team I love so much try and do at the end of a game against a team (and school) I hate more than anything in the world. We gave up…I cannot fathom what type of psyche goes into willingly wanting to punt the ball away when you have 1:30 and three time outs. Glennon has lead game wiining drives the last two games, why not try and drive in this one. Even with the way everyhting unfolded, we still had them where we wanted them with the ball in our hands and the chance to take the lead with a tied game. I am truly dumfounded. Plain and simple, we quit, our I should say our coach and his staff quit. I feel bad for the players, they should have be given the chance to win that game. This hurts…it really hurts, we are quitters…

Worst playcalling/time management/decision making in the 4th quarter I have ever seen. I am ready for a change. TOB just made himself look like a totally incompetent coach…He is an average to above average program administrator, but he is one of the worst game-day/end of game coaches I have ever witnessed.

  12. adub95 10/27/2012 at 4:38 PM #

You play to win! You don’t play to tie! It epitomized our 2nd half, ultra-conservative against a team that put up 25 in one quarter, and against a team we threw for 350 in the first half! AND everybody knows you can’t blitz the spread offense! There is no second like of defense. Same ol’ Pack, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory…
    Can Gott coach football??

  13. TOBtime 10/27/2012 at 4:38 PM #

You play to win. Period. It was Clemson from 2 years ago all over again. Some people never learn.

Yep. What I thought. All of the comments mirror each other. I’ll join in on the similar banter. Prepare for a long, angry sentence: How the mother%%%%%% $#@^ can a coach be such a weak @$$ punk ^&*($ and play/hope for OT? It makes no sense. You have a over a minute left in the game with a qb who had over 400 yds passing, 5TD’s and who had led a late game drive to beat FSU earlier in the year, ANNND 3 timeouts that you can’t take home with you and yet punk the F out and call three running plays. Congrats you basically dropped trowel and shat in the faces of Pack alums and fans everywhere!

TOB isn’t losing his job over this game unless State loses out and misses a bowl, which won’t happen.

Whether he deserves to- well, you know what you’re getting with him, which is a pile of average.

Absolutely right about the playcalling being predictable.

  17. wolffpride 10/27/2012 at 4:42 PM #

I will tolerate another year of TOB, but only if two things happen. First, we win out the rest of our games. If we go out 9-3 then that is a great season for our program and may give us a chance at the ACC title. Second, he apologizes for being such a conservative, piece of shit, pussy! And never again do I, you, or our players have to feel like we ever left anything out on the field, especially against that team. Conservative can no longer be part of our program, we play to win, period.

I just called my parents and told them that they were wrong. They raised me to believe that CHeaters never win, but I just watched it happen. TOB let it happen by taking his foot off the throttle and playing not to lose rather than playing to win. He has a quarterback who has won several games on last minute drives, and he tried to run out the clock to get to overtime rather than throw the ball downfield and get into field goal range. Tom, an axiom I coined in college is, “When you live for it, that’s when it beats you.” It beat the crap of you today, buddy. I also have no idea why Baumon would kick the ball to Bernard. Kick the ball as far away from him as possible and let the punt roll dead. Eight dropped passes, biting on 2 trick plays early and an overturned call that gave them the ball near the red zone did not help(I thought the ground could not cause a fumble.). But I digress. Congrats to UNCHeat. I hope you enjoyed your “bowl” game against your non-rival. One out of six ain’t bad. See you in Red Hell next fall.

To add insult to injury, UNC really isn’t very good, and they have a loud mouth rabble rousing coach. What class going for two twice (and of course it’s on us for being the butt of the joke) and all the media coverage of him and his antics. “I don’t want to legitimize their program”. HA I really don’t want too either rift now!

It’s our fault we lost to a worse team again today. Anyone seen UTs record lately? Yeah I hate it for TOB but his staff has some fundamental flaws and no winning attitude.

And worst of all is he’ll chock it all up to “you can’t win a football game when you make that many mistakes” in a very nonchalant tone. The truth is HE can’t win a football game with that kind of philosophy and something like we keep getting by by teams we shouldn’t loose too and that will change ASAP. Even though its too late for that now. Who’s excited for another crappy bowl this year!?

  20. bTHEredterror 10/27/2012 at 4:46 PM #

Jumper, in the postgame interview, TOB admitted they had never coached Baumann on how to kick directionally and didn’t want to risk a shank.

  21. gtspack 10/27/2012 at 4:46 PM #

My wife knows about as much about football as I know about making a dress and she even thought it was stupid play calling.

  22. eas 10/27/2012 at 4:46 PM #

Same game, same play calling, same game prep every week for 5.5 years. Nothing to see here that isn’t the norm. We get lucky from time to time and end up with a shitty bowl game. Same old thing.

  23. Pack1998 10/27/2012 at 4:47 PM #

    This loss is a loss

    But

If you combine it with a loss to a bad Miami and a below average Tenn?

O’Brien is on the hot seat. We lose to Clemson, as expected, but another loss beyond that? He may prove he can never move us beyond “slightly above average”, even with a team this year with 5-6 NFL players.

I like TOB, really do. But this game combined with the Miami disaster, if he and his staff have one more disaster?

  24. slushy1975 10/27/2012 at 4:47 PM #

We were beaten on a punt return TD that has a low probability of success. Can’t speak to the last drive and how it would’ve ended, but the Pack lost on a very nice special teams play.

With our offense clicking today, we would’ve probably won in OT. With our 1st quarter defense and final play special teams, oh well.

The sun rises tomorrow. Back at it.

  25. Sweet jumper 10/27/2012 at 4:51 PM #

My bad. I had no clue that a Division I scholarship sophomore punter has not been coached to punt directionally. I have seen him kick for the corner before and that is punting directionally. Wow. TOB needs to evaluate the kicking coach if that is true.
