Butch Davis interview with WRAL’s Jeff Gravely

Did anyone pay attention to this?

I can’t imagine that anything can come of it.

First, Gravely works at WRAL. Nothing more has to be said about that. They’ve embarrassed themselves to the point that most people can’t even reference the station without breaking out in laughter.

Second, I can’t imagine that UNC’s confidentiality agreement and non-disparagement clauses are going to allow for Butch to say anything negative about them if he wants to keep collecting his hush money and keep his office on campus.

Link to Davis understands why UNC made him the fall guy

Former University of North Carolina head football coach Butch Davis was removed from his position just weeks before the start of the 2011 season in the wake of an NCAA investigation into the football program. Despite never being mentioned in the NCAA Notice of Allegations, UNC parted ways with Davis, agreeing to pay as much as $2.7 million in a buyout for severing ties without cause.

It was a joke. More of a series of scripted q&a with no new info instead of an “interview”. Same old “i didnt know” about wiley, blake, etc.

he did say something to the effect of “the academic support system was in place before I got here, I didn’t question the administration”

Eventually someone will crack. Someone will need money and offer up their story. Marvin, Black Santa, Wiley, eventually someone will break the silence. There is no way that they can keep it on lock down forever. Butch has millions of reasons to toe the line. Somewhere there is someone without so much incentive to keep silent.

How his evasie anwers and facts do not constitue LOIC for UNC-BS is beyond belief. Then to read the comments of UNC-such dicks fans about how Jim Valvano was worse is three light universes beyond belief. Proud of the Red and White at NC State and go to hell UNC-CS …. !!!!

This was Butch Davis’s way of making himself presentable for other colleges…like Arkansas.

He’s toxic right now due to public perception, so he needs to conduct a PR tour to make himself look good to folks from afar who do not know the details of this scandal and won’t look too closely except at official and media reports. They’ll hear him repeat his same story, see that it is consistent with what he said in the media, and then since most of his enablers at UNC are gone, that will be that: Butchie is back on the sidelines with a mostly clean slate.

So the lead in says “tough question revealing answers”. I would completely disagree. I didn’t hear him ask a single tough question, as a matter of fact, he only asked (on tape) three question (#1 What changed in your mind? #2 can you understand somebody with all that was going one that would say how could a head coach not know what was going on? and #3 are you one of those?) directly to Butch. It looks to me like he just let him talk about what he wanted to. I guess he had to do that to get the interview. What a let down.

was this info about how he had to “clean up” from the previous coaching staff previously known?

“”Davis said that the initial problems went well beyond 2008 when the improprieties garnered NCAA attention. Davis inherited problems on the football roster when he first arrived in Chapel Hill in 2006.

“In the first two years, we had to terminate and dismiss from the program 18 players – completely under the radar,” Davis said. “There were things we had to change. We knew about it. Players that had hundred dollar bills laying on their bed and then posting it on Facebook. People talk about how we didn’t monitor Facebook, we did. We found things – we immediately acted.” “”

I don’t recall ever hearing about this. I wonder if the ncaa knew/knows?

I wonder what Bunting will have to say about this?

^Old-my thoughts exactly-re this interview, somewhere in the background, we can hear the theme from ‘The Twilight Zone’ playing…

Those 18 players were probably 2* players inherited that had to go to make room for the 4* players he brought (bought) into the program.

Yeah – the $100 bills were marring Butchie’s rep; he had to bring in guys that had $500 bills laying on their beds…

My bet is that Blake runs out of money soon and starts talking – bet he got used to running in fast circles, and $75K won’t go far !
