Old MacDonald Had a Farm. Pack wins!

When we hongry we eat. Pack beats Aztecs 79-65, advance to Round of 32, await winner of Georgetown/Belmont.

WRAL:

Getting into the NCAA tournament is the hard part for North Carolina State.

Winning a first game? Not that difficult, apparently.

Richard Howell doubled his average with 22 points, and 11th-seeded North Carolina State used its muscle inside and sticky defense to upset San Diego State 79-65 on Friday in a second-round East Regional game.

More to come.

Very impressed with how we’re playing as a team. We looked like a top four seed today, coming in and bending SDSU to our will. The guys seem to be gaining confidence in themselves and one another, and as team they seem to have peaked at the perfect time.

    We could be here awhile.

So strange watching one of our games called by non-ACC officials. They definitely let them play today. There were so many instances throughout the game where I was anticipating the whistle that was never heard.

Georgetown is a nightmare matchup for us – but let’s not worry about that today!

Lo Brown messed around and (nearly) got a triple double – 17 pts, 9 reb, 8 ast.

    Creighton by one.

Creighton hangs on … can definitely get the Holes sans Henson.

The Bluejay who blew the FTs makes the game saving block!

From ESPN’s Myron Medcalf: “N.C. State is such a talented team. It’s surprising that they didn’t make more of a push in the ACC”

I didn’t get to watch the game but I am so happy Howell finally had a breakout game. But I am curious why he only had one rebound. Can anyone explain this? Did State have him playing away from the basket?

Love the entry title! My friend and I sang this at a bar in Charleston as soon as the game was over. Great to see the Pack get a (relatively easy) W in the NCAA. Bring on G’Town/Belmont!

We did make a push. The refs just f-cked us in Cameron. MG has definitely maxed out our potential otherwise.

At least the Bonnies are making one of my upset picks look sane. 🙂

We scored 15 points over SDSU def avg, and 12& over their fg defense . I’d say the boys got the memo from Gott that the trip was for business not pleasure.

Of course, maybe we’re a nightmare matchup for Georgetown too.

    Troll

That’s the way the game should be called. It happens in all conferences except the ACC. Big difference!

Re: Howell rebounds – It was a highly efficient offensive game on both ends – including great efficiency from Howell himself.

This definitely has a lot to do with Howell’s rebounding totals.

  16. Wulfpack 03/16/2012 at 3:23 PM #

We are a very talented and damned good basketball team. G’town beware. We’re comin!

  17. MrPlywood 03/16/2012 at 3:24 PM #

BTW, I wasn’t following the game thread – on that foul on Howell that resulted in 3 free-throws…. I say that it shouldn’t have been any free throws, since the guy never released the ball. It’s not a shot if you don’t let it go, right?

And going further, the guy clearly jumped into Howell, but the refs were calling that one both ways today.

  18. Wufpacker 03/16/2012 at 3:25 PM #

Wood made only one 3pt shot, and Johnson went scoreless. If you had told me that before the game it would have worried the hell out of me.

*this* is our ACC push. Every win shows we are a premier ACC program and how interesting ACC officiating is!

  20. Red_Terrors 03/16/2012 at 3:26 PM #

Shepherd Smith on Foxnews just mentioned our win and said Go Wolfpack!

  21. TheAliasTroll 03/16/2012 at 3:29 PM #

I wonder if Herb watched our game? LOL

  22. MrPlywood 03/16/2012 at 3:29 PM #

Oh yeah, did anyone listen to the Mike & Mike Show this morning? My favorite analyst, Jay Bilas *cough* called out State for the reaction video, saying it was “odd” and that it showed the Pack might just be happy to be in the tourney. Whatta tool. At least Gminski pointed out that the Pack’s name was last called out…

G-town is beating up on Belmont. They are just too big and too quick for the. We better bring our A Game to the Georgetown in the next round if we want to win that one.

  24. Wufpacker 03/16/2012 at 3:31 PM #

    @MrPlywood,
I think their reasoning would probably be that he wasn’t able to release the ball because of the foul, but on the replay it was obvious that he was only trying to make contact and not really trying to make an honest attempt to score. Not sure why officials call that kind of play on the perimeter so reliably against the defender when it’s always obvious the shooter is the one initiating contact for the sake of getting a BS foul call. Bugs me as much as the flop.

I’ve realized that Bilas is a tool and he is quite comfortable in his tooliness. Maybe it is like it was with Jay Mariotti, getting too caught up in his own TV persona to realize *or care*, well, that he’s a douche.
