ACC to disband the ACC basketball tournament. Annual Duke/UNC third time around game announced.

They might as well make it official. That was beyond bias. It was outright crooked. Karl Hess got his revenge.

If you don’t follow our twitter feed then you really need to check it out. SFN was ALL OVER many of the local and national media’s admittance of ACC officiating bias and incompetence today. Link to our timeline to scroll through.

Even the national media saw it. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bubblewatch

the last eight of which came without its best player, C.J. Leslie, who fouled out on a massive mistake by the NCSU coaching staff — and one that received the worst end of a universally bad officiating performance by the ACC referees

playing UNC close to the final buzzer, and getting the wrong end of a couple key calls (the refs were bad for both teams, but there’s little question NC State felt a lion’s share of the pain)

Every time State would get momentum ref’s made a call against State. Wood and Williams not playing well hurts but team can not play holes and ref’ to win. I have been a State fan for 40 years and the calls against us this year were awful. Seems we are always having 4 or 5 guys in foul trouble. The no calls at the end just show how bad the officiating in this league is and has always been for unc.

  2. JeremyH 03/10/2012 at 4:41 PM #

And despite what happened at the end with the officials, we had our chance to win the game, and we turned it over. Its unfortunate. But even with 8 on 5, we did have an opportunity to win the game.

The ACC will not change. The ACC only has two “real” teams in the conference, the rest are just fodder.

statemech, thanks. I bet D. Yow is on top of it then and giving swoff a earful.

The good thing is I didn’t get the feeling that the team will come out playing the same way they did get against FSU after Duke. They seemed pretty fired up. Plus it will be the NCAAT presumably. Right now, this team is good. I hope they come out playing hard cuz I think they can make some noise. They’ll have played and nearly beaten teams as good or better than what they’ll face initially.

I’m afraid Syracuse doesn’t know what it is in for with this league. #protecttheblues

“You guys are funny. You take down Fowler and you think you have got what it takes to take down the ACC? Sincerely, good luck.”

You never win the fight you crawl away from. I am sick of the second class status from the Atlantic Coast Cabal

  8. Tampa-Pack 03/10/2012 at 4:45 PM #

Don’t worry FSU. You’re playing a nice game, but the refs will take it away from you right at the end.

    Love,

    KH

In less than a year Gott has taken our team to where obviously bias calls against us are needed to “even“ out the field. Just wait until he gets a few more players. It is going to get to the point that even the refs cannot win their games.

Or he will leave because he is sick of not being given a fair chance, see Barnes, Rick

Just got this off the ESPN boards. That is a charge.

The ACC refs remind me of a Dirty Harry movie. Unfortunately, it’s Magnum Force.

I just wish the league would be humane enough to use lube.

  14. IrishPackFan 03/10/2012 at 4:53 PM #

Has anybody emailed Debbie about the officiating and gotten a response? Has the ACC even answered concerning the “KH” on the ref’s shoes?

Anyone have a clip of the end with the UNX save out of bounds? I thought he was out.

  16. NOT A FAN OF BLUE 03/10/2012 at 4:55 PM #

^^ Mr. Plywood is right. It is a charge. However, I agree with Jeremy H, as well. STATE had plenty of opportuities to win the game. In spite of bad officiating, STATE lost the game on its own.

Anyone have a clip of the end with the UNX save out of bounds? I thought he was out.

Agreed. I thought he was on the end line. But you know, shut your @#$@^$ a$$ up, and don’t let facts get in the way of calling the game.

Can anybody get the audio of the ref comment?????

  19. Sweet jumper 03/10/2012 at 5:00 PM #

All this talk about pulling out of the ACC needs to stop. We are a charter member and a 10-time champion. What needs to happen is for all the non-blews to band together and kick Dook and UNX out. Let them form the two-team Blew Conference. They can play each other 25 times a year on ESPN and have a best of 7 series for their tournament on ESPN and then both be #1 seeds in the NCAAT every year. The officiating crew should be Hess, Dorsey and Ayers with TV Teddy Valentine as alternate.
Swofford would be commissioner and Dickie V and Jay Bile-ass the broadcast team. Then the rest of us can move on with a non-partisan commissioner and an entire group of new officials and a new network contract.

I also thank the Wolfpack players for their resolve. It made them look good.

Gott kept his cool when refs were using abusive, profane language. His years in the media are serving him well.

We have been sent a message.

I am NOT on the bandwagon that wants to leave the ACC. In my eyes, that is just not right, and it’s how you get a reputation as perpetual “victim”. So let’s just stop that nonsense.

However, I am firmly in the camp that feels that the ACC (and quite possibly the officials) are so enamored with their beloved Tarheels and the glorious Blue Devils that they’ll do almost ANYTHING to ensure that those two programs shine brightly on selection Sunday. That game, and mostly the officiating, was an absolute embarrassment for the conference and the NCAA. Officials make mistakes, guys have bad days, and yes, NC State does foul. However, the calls, the non-calls, the inconsistencies, and the outright incompetence has become unbearable for the fans – even those wearing blue. Sadly, it just took the wind out of an otherwise wonderful game by my Wolfpack – I’m really proud of the way that they played, and I still believe that their confidence and their pride showed through the crap today. I’m looking forward to an NCAA tournament away from the ACC bias. Go Wolfpack!!

Let me ask the questions: are we a better team with, say, Big East refs? Does Richard Howell get as many fouls? If the answer is “yes” and “no”, then if we get Non-ACC refs in the NCAAs, I’m thinking this team will go pretty far. Time to put up once we’re bracketed.

  23. tvp1 03/10/2012 at 5:07 PM #

We got hosed, but we also made way too many mistakes. Too many missed FTs, non-factor games from Wood and CJW, too many bad TOs.

I was more mad about the Duke game than this. Against Duke we played perfectly for 30 minutes and only lost when they got our whole team in foul trouble. In this game we played ok, but not great overall.

But of course I am all for leaving the ACC.

  24. vtpackfan 03/10/2012 at 5:08 PM #

I imagine that if we left the ACC it would have to be ninja style. If we get stuck having to play a few lame duck years they would be all over us calling every game like Dook or UNC was the opponent. If Yow and Woodson wouldnt object to a lateral move we could be in the Big East before spring break was over. Its a BCS conference with regional teams from Florida, Kentucky, most likely soon to be Tennessee (Memphis). We might not ever sniff the SEC and the ACC is dead to us now. A regional shift like this would be unpopular at first but practical once folks get over with it.
