Leave the ACC. Leave it NOW! [Updated 11:50PM]

There is no fixing this league. There is no gaining respect when your level of play warrants it. It’s broken beyond repair. Somebody will take us. I don’t care who. I just want out of this bush league organization.

When I was at the hardware store the other day I saw a mother with her child.  The child kept reaching for candy at the counter and the mother kept saying no.  It went from the child asking for candy to reaching for candy to taking the candy to opening the candy.  Each time the mother said, “Stop it, sweetie.  Come on, stop it.  I’m serious, stop it.”

NC State has been saying “stop it” for a long time.  We’ve had a lot of discussion here on StateFansNation on the refs and even written article about the obvious/admitted bias of ACC officials towards certain programs.  Personally, when the discussion of leaving the ACC comes up, I feel it’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.  You have a bunch of (mostly) younger fans who have this crazy idea that we should abandon being a ‘basketball school’ and focus on football and construct these elaborate ideas of why playing in the SEC would work.  The problem is that now I’m in a situation where I’m tired of saying “stop it” to the ACC officials and now just want to do something drastic for sh*ts and grins and to make a point.

It’s official, regardless of how good or bad I feel a move to leave the ACC would be, I am officially on-board with leaving the ACC if for no other reason than to send a message that this officiating is complete Bullshit.  Would it cause a dip in our performance?  I think it would.  Would it screw up some of our scheduling and maybe even our bottom line?  I have no clue; there are a lot of variables there.  The one thing I do know is that when NC State and Duke can play at Cameron, have matched defensive efforts (sort of), and NC State out shoot Duke both behind the arc and inside of it and STILL loose because we simply can’t play defense in the second half… I’m done.  I’m taking my ball and leaving.

Could lightning strike twice? Could State end up being the whipping boys in another conference if they switched? I’m willing to take a chance. Anybody that really believes State lost this game on their own tonight needs to wake up.

Again, I just watched parts of the second half, but there was this one play when Painter gets an offensive rebound, is clearly fouled by some Duke kid, no call, Duke kid gets the ball back, Painter falls (maybe he did fall on the Duke kid on purpose), Duke kid trips, foul on Painter, Duke kid angrily bounces the ball, no technical foul called against Duke. Four point play for Duke.

Can’t imagine what Yow’s inbox looks like tonight. Wonder if she’s up sending out emails.

This was basically having to alter our style off play different from the whole rest of the game we’ve played just to be allowed by the refs the privilage of remaining in the game. Our tiny 7 man rotation couldn’t withstand foulfest twenty twelve. 45 fouls in this game. What’s the league average per game? I’d also like to know how many other teams in ACC league play this year have even had TWO guys from the same team foul out, much less THREE. We played one way to gain a lead and clearly played differntly with more than half the starters running around with 4 fouls and two others with 3 apiece.

Even to individuals with little basketball knowledge the foul discrepancies are astounding. I HATE acc refs. They are the worst in the country.

Just after we went up by 20 nearly 11 minutes left in the game my acc.com/live feed died. Maybe that’s a good thing.

WHY THE HELL DOESN’T THE NCAA DO AN INVESTIGATION ON THE ACC REFS? RAT FACE K AND HIS DUKE BUDDIES PLAY GOLF WITH THE REFS AND THE COMMISIONER. SOMETHING HAS TO BE GOING ON THERE…

“We were not the better team. We were close but not better. When crunch time came we caved.”

Sorry – can’t agree. With our hands tied behind our collective back we were not the better team. All things being equal we were clearly the better team tonight.

All things were not equal. We were FORCED to play p*ssy ball in the second half. If our guys are not in foul trouble we win going away – by a long shot. I don’t see how it can be argued otherwise.

We were quicker, more athletic, more aggressive – I can go on and on. The whistles absolutely blew all of those advantages right out of the water.

The N&O post game article doesn’t even mention fouls.

  10. Dreadstone 02/17/2012 at 12:26 AM #

14 fouls in 7 minutes. Fouls on starters: NC State – 17, Duke-9.

It’s time to leave this swofford abortion and explore other (league)options.

Can’t wait for our three blue chippers to get here. It really did suck, and I still can’t quite figure out what happened, but I keep reminding myself that this is basically last year’s team minus Smith and Harrow. We obviously have a good coach. Forget about this one, and beat Fla. State. We will be beating the blues a lot in the future with Gott at the helm. I am keeping the faith.

    …just Duke’s miraculous comeback.

  13. GAWolf 02/17/2012 at 12:28 AM #

Is Dr. Yow going to step up, do the right thing, and voice the obvious concerns about the Duke game in public?

Someone needs to defend this team and our coaching staff.

  14. STLPack01 02/17/2012 at 12:28 AM #

This is horseshit. There. I said it.

  15. BJD95 02/17/2012 at 12:29 AM #

I only watched the last 90 seconds (and even then, muted) out of respect for our players. I don’t want to see any more rigged action. Just win or lose, fair and square. That only happens outside the ACC.

  16. wufpup76 02/17/2012 at 12:30 AM #

“Someone needs to defend this team and our coaching staff.”

Someone also needs to lobby for league integrity. There is none.

    There’s not even a league. It’s two teams …

I like this mentality, i’m furious and ready to leave after seeing this tonight, but if we stay (and i’m sure we will) let’s come back and beat the crap out of them in the ACC Tourney or in Raleigh next year. Take the high road on these biatches.

Gotta be stronger in the clutch. We missed way to many opportunities to score in the second half. Proud of the guys for the effort but there is more to learn. All a part of the process. A Lowe coached team would have NEVER been within 3 points with less than a minute to go. K and wonderboy must be shaking – there is a new coach in town.

  19. Dogbreath 02/17/2012 at 12:31 AM #

This Duke team will get ass blasted by a 9th seed in mid March.

  20. Manu Ginobili 02/17/2012 at 12:31 AM #

Biggest Duke fan I have on facebook says: “Glad we came back, but let’s be real, we didn’t deserve that one. I’ll admit, the refs handed it to us”. So I guess it’s official, we were screwed.

  21. BJD95 02/17/2012 at 12:32 AM #

There’s no way to beat the crap out of them more thoroughly than we did tonight. None.

  22. tvp1 02/17/2012 at 12:32 AM #

I’ve been saying this for a while, for many reasons. Crap like what we witnessed tonight is just icing on the cake. The ACC is corrupt to the core. Syracuse and Pitt will rue the day they signed up.

  23. WV Wolf 02/17/2012 at 12:32 AM #

The ACC is dead to me. Expansion and the officiating has killed my interest and pride in the conference. ACC basketball was the crown jewel of this conference and they have sacrificed it for bad football and the constant propping up of the 2 blue schools.

“Is Dr. Yow going to step up, do the right thing, and voice the obvious concerns about the Duke game in public?

I sent her a short note saying exactly that. I’m tired of seeing those type of officiating abominations without anyone in our organization speaking out about it. Enough is enough.

Also, I’m extremely happy with the way our boys played, they just got defeated toward the end. I’m glad Gott is getting on the refs, because that’s part of how Roy and K got where they are…glad we have a coach who can get a technical now and again, because, like prison, you have to buck up of be f-ed over. I think some of the fouls coming against Duke early in the 2nd was a way to try and compensate for the fouls they were calling on us…we just don’t have the bench for it. It was a moral victory.

The difference between me and Duke fans is this: If they would’ve lost that game, they would have cried. If we would’ve won that game, I would have cried.
