A Call to Arms

If you didn’t believe it early last week, then surely you did late Thursday night. And if you didn’t believe it then…well, certainly your eyes were opened by Karl Hess on Saturday afternoon, or by the league office later that night. Now, there can be no going back.

NC State is no longer a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Neither is Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Maryland, etc. NC State just happened to be put on notice first. Lucky us. It’s a four member league now, and has been for some time – Duke, North Carolina, ESPN, and John Swofford’s ego. No more room at the inn. It doesn’t matter that this is the house that Everett Case built. If you’re not wearing blue, you are no longer welcome.

Each NC State student, alumnus, and fan has a responsibility. Under no circumstances can you let this go, let this blatant disrespect stand. If you do, you’ve announced to the Swofford cabal that you will absolutely swallow absolutely anything…then smack your lips and ask for another helping. This goes far beyond sports – the cabal has pissed all over your alma mater, your diploma, and the diploma of your fathers, mothers, siblings, and the future diplomas of your children. If you’re headed to the RBC Tuesday night…be creative. And angry. Really, really angry. Make sure the chancellor hears you. That the athletic director hears you. That the Board of Trustees hears you.

Don’t expect to hear happy words. Expect, nay, demand action. Watch for signs that things are building to a crescendo behind the scenes. And don’t throw in the towel, no matter what. To live on your knees is not living at all. Fight for the legacy of Everett Case and James T. Valvano. Fight for your honor and dignity. Fight for the student athletes past, present, and future who have given and will give blood, sweat, and tears to wear the red and white (and sometimes black). If you don’t fight for them…why would you expect them to fight for you?

We are mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore!

The conference statement, and that of J Clougherty, gives an official virtually free reign to remove whoever he chooses to if he doesn’t like what a fan is saying or doing. This episode, combined with Clougherty’s statement last week that the Holes don’t foul as much as everyone else, tells me it’s time to knock on the door to the SEC and see if there is any interest. It’s painfully obvious that our charter membership in the ACC means absolutely nothing.

    What is needed?

    Revolution.

    Que Theme from Les Miserables!

  5. redcanine 02/19/2012 at 11:11 AM #

Well, I’m sure as hell not going to go to Georgia come early March. To Hell with that tournament.

A nice statement could be made when TOB and company play Tenn in the Georgia Dome. If we pack out the Dome that might show the SEC what we can bring to the table.

We certainly can’t just keep hoping that things get better; we have to make things better.

    @ Avid

We have a saying in the military. “‘Hope’ is not a method”.

In the long run, this incident may turn out to be a very good thing for NC State…but only because we have strong leadership now.

Just watched video again, and the tip of the hat Gugliotta offers the crowd and the subsequent high fives to the crowd are nothing short of excellent. I love that man.

    “Que Theme from Les Miserables!”

We are at the gates !

I’ll speak for the former players. Thanks for having our backs boys.

My email to Yow and Woodson, came from exactly the point of view of a former baller.

I’m going to the Georgia Dome in September with a sign that says “Swofford’s killing the ACC- NC STATE looking for a new conference. Please take us SEC.”

It’s not what you write, it’s how you write it.

Here’s a link, for you. Easy to follow directions (with pictures).

So maybe Hess thought it wasn’t what they said but how they said it.

  15. TheCOWDOG 02/19/2012 at 11:58 AM #

I don’t comprehend a thing you are truly trying to get across…Stillapackfan.

It doesn’t matter what Hess thought.

  16. stillapackfan 02/19/2012 at 11:59 AM #

I still say we are making a mountain out of a mole hill which will only serve as a distraction to a team who doesn’t need distracting.

  17. GAWolf 02/19/2012 at 12:04 PM #

Stillapackfan… this is AN EXAMPLE. It’s not the problem itself. See the forest, not the trees.

  18. stillapackfan 02/19/2012 at 12:06 PM #

    Cowdog,

The point I’m making is Hess kicking them out for what they said is no different than my posts getting deleted for what I said.

  19. Wufpacker 02/19/2012 at 12:11 PM #

    Just….wow.

  20. Wulfpack 02/19/2012 at 12:14 PM #

“The point I’m making is Hess kicking them out for what they said is no different than my posts getting deleted for what I said.”

There is a rulebook, which the ACC office admitted was not followed. There is also common understanding and notions of decency. Name me one other instance you have seen an official kick a fan (albeit legends in this scenario) out of a game.

  21. BJD95 02/19/2012 at 12:15 PM #

The 2011-12 season was destroyed by the front office on Thursday night. It can’t be revived.

The front office added insult to injury yesterday. By sitting back and taking it, you send a clear signal that you will always sit back and take it.

If you believe that’s what we should do, certainly your prerogative. Don’t be surprised when most of us strongly disagree.

“The point I’m making is Hess kicking them out for what they said is no different than my posts getting deleted for what I said.” -stillapackfan

Because you’re not one of us like we’re are not on of them. The difference is that they are not fans. They are officiating the game. Besides, your name hasn’t got “ejected” (aka blocked).

  23. Tampa-Pack 02/19/2012 at 12:26 PM #

I’m in for sure. BJD has become quite a prophet this season. He was right about the Duke game (before everyone else thought we had a chance) and spot on still. Give us orders sir. Emails and correspondences will be sent. I still think that application with the entrance fee needs to be hand delivered to the SEC office first thing tomorrow! This isn’t the ACC we founded and have grown up with. This is a 2 team conference. Bet SU wishes they never signed up for this. Jimmy B will be looking at an early retirement….

  24. BJD95 02/19/2012 at 12:28 PM #

Wulf – there’s no common courtesy and decency afforded NC State because the cabal doesn’t have the slightest bit of respect for NC State. That’s abundantly clear. They have thrown down their marker, and now it’s our move.

  25. Tampa-Pack 02/19/2012 at 12:28 PM #

And those that say we are dead to any future coaches if we don’t do something are also correct. Who would blame Gott if he left for a chance to compete on a fair level? We’re lucky to have him, we gotta keep him!
