Josh Sessoms lands Extra Effort Award

In typical TOB recruit fashion, safety prospect Josh Sessoms from Southern Nash High is the latest winner of Tom Suiter’s Extra Effort Award. For those of you like me who played high school sports in NC (or at least all of NC that matters: Raleigh and anything to the east therefrom… I kid Charlottans and Triadites and people with one leg longer than the other) then the EEA requires no introduction. It was elusive. It was special. It was an award that I recall was only won by two guys from our highschool in the five years I was there.

Simply, it was and remains a great way to recognize kids who are champions in the classroom, in the community, and of course on the field to steal a line from Tom O’Brien. The link will be provided once WRAL gets it up. It’s worth a watch. This kid, from all accounts, is a great young man who will make us proud to be Wolfpackers for years to come.

Congratulations to Josh, and best of luck to him as he moves forward with his football career and educational pursuits. It would be a shame not to also congratulate TOB and his staff for winning the favor of young men who are true student athletes of fantastic character.

You obviously don’t know how SFN works. We all have “day jobs.” Thanks for reading!

One last thing since the rest of the joke wasn’t clear enough for you, I really was not in high school for 5 years. I was kidding about that, too.

It was a joke man. Relax. I realized some of you might not have grown up in the WRAL market and joked that it makes sense you wouldn’t have heard of it. Relax. I don’t think only half of NC matters. What does matter is that we have kids of high character coming to NC State to play football. For those readers that call us hatefans, please recognize that this is why we can’t please everyone all the time. Further for the record, this is hardly an “article.” Its sharing a link to a story that is positive for Wolfpack sports.

GAWolf, thanks for posting. Always great to hear about tremendous young athletes coming to THE State University of North Carolina. I look forward to seeing Sessoms groomed under the tutelage of David Amerson.

GA played junior varsity as a fifth-year senior and probably thinks the Triad is Roanoke Rapids and Rocky Mount. He should be commended just for using punctuation.

Indeed. Tarbrah is the 3rd point of the triad; I’m fairly certain.

The above address is to a site that says Jefferson is looking an Villanova and Duke. State fans should hit any and all sites discussing his recruitment and explain why he should run with the pack. He seems like a good kid as well as a talent on the court.

Thanks for sharing. I can honestly say SFN is worth every penny I pay for it.

My wife won the same EEA while playing at Sanderson High back in 2000/2001

I’m pretty sure my best friend won one of these for wrestling. The closest I got was winning the WRAL Wrestling Tournament my senior year 🙂

Also, Desmond Owino from Sanderson SWITCHED from UNX to NCSU !!!

    We surely can find a place for a 6’5″, 3*** DE 😉

    Welcome, fellow Spartan Alumnus !

UNC has a similar version of this award that they give out themselves. If you make it to at least one class and do a minimum of one assignment on your own, you get the extra effort award. You probably haven’t heard of it because it’s rarely given out.

GA, there are a dozen people left on SFN with a sense of humor.

I can count ’em on two hands.

Sort of related, Greg Paulus just discovered he hasn’t used up all his high school eligibility and will be enrolling at Broughton High as a 14th year senior. He hopes to crack the starting lineup as a QB, but would currently be listed as number 5 on their depth chart.

Partial credit just for knowing it requires three.

lots of Sanderson love in here! Class of 05′ here. Glad to see a fellow Spartan defect to the Pack!

“Indeed. Tarbrah is the 3rd point of the triad; I’m fairly certain.”

Would have been funnier if he had said “fourth point”…

Congrats to Josh Sessoms for earning this special award! As a former Southern Nash Firebird myself, I am truely thrilled that a high character young man like Josh will be coming to State!

Note: I saw Josh play a handful of times during his Junior and Senior years. Like with many high school athletes who are the best player on the team, he was stretched pretty thin going both ways. Nonetheless, in each game I witnessed, he was obviously the best player on the field for either team.
