Here’s a pretty good link from the FayObserver.

    http://fayobserver.com/articles/2011/07/15/1108284

First time I’ve linked, hope it works.

I think Billy Bob Thornton just asked a question.

not having the best luck with GoPack’s streaming. I know that everyone is shocked by that.

Gott has got me excited about basketball again. I know a lot of us felt this way the same time last year because of the talent coming in, but this time around we have a proven coach with a strong cast of assistants.

Anyone have a link of a replay?

  6. coach13 07/19/2011 at 2:22 PM #

The only thing I am excited about at this point is that maybe we’ll just be smarter in play and coaching. Gott is right. Gonna take a couple years to get to the top 1/3 of ACC. He’s justifiably tempering short term expectations. I’m optimistic we want leave alot of games wondering “what the hell was he thinking?” type season. I am confident he can maximize what he has to work with to whatever end that is. Could not say that for previous coaches.

At the very least, I’m optimistic that this staff can effectively communicate what they expect of each player. Hopefully, the player is capable of (and willing to) living up to the expectation.

And I’m positive that wasn’t the case in the recent past.

Q Re: recruiting thus far: “Do you feel like you’ve built momentum?”
    Gott: “No.”
Somebody’s got some high standards, good to hear it!

    Gott: “Need to change mindsets.”
True, true, true. Believing and thinking rightly is the very first step.

Scheduling comments were encouraging and pretty funny at the same time. While he said “the league” played too many 250-300 RPI teams, you know that was directed straight at recent Wolfpack schedules.

I missed the presser so I also would be in a replay link.

That aside I do like the talk and if the walk equals the talk the Pack will be fine.

What was he saying about CJ Leslie? It sounded to me like Leslie suffered an injury in the NC ProAm, but Gott saying “when I read about it…” sounded odd. Can anybody confirm whether or not Leslie is hurt and, if so, how much time he is expected to miss?

  12. TheAliasTroll 07/19/2011 at 5:31 PM #

He was talking about UNC’s Leslie McDonald.

  13. JEOH2 07/19/2011 at 5:35 PM #

Right it was about Leslie McDonald…

The comment about scheduling wasn’t just about us though…don’t forget this guy was an analyst for the past 2 years leading into the NCAA tournament…in context, he was speaking on the failure to make the tournament due to RPI, that was not our case…I am almost positive the name that came into his head after saying that was VTech…he may even have mentioned them, if I’m not mistaken…

Overall, I like his demeanor, lack of any excuses, and blunt nature about things (i.e. Howell’s weight, RPI, past failures at ‘Bama etc) he is very much a reflection of his A.D. and our FBall coach…

With respect to league RPI, I heard K say the same thing on talk radio (think it was ESPN nationally). He chastised the league for weak OOC scheduling and basically said the league is hurting itself as well as Duke. I agree entirely.

    “I like shooters.”

Hell yes! We have lacked shooters for the past five years.

Richard Howell was the worst finisher I’ve ever seen with his size and hands because he was overweight and had a two inch vertical jump. Hopefully the strength and conditioning allows him to play much closer to his skill level.

    Nice blip on Fox Sports:

    http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebasketball/story/Gottfried-putting-his-touches-on-NC-State-program-28306336

Love the fact that he’s trimmed 20 pounds off Howell already; maybe now he can dunk the ball when he gets in tight !

Coach Gott was elected to the NABC board yesterday along with Jamie Dixon, Jim Boeheim, and Brad Stevens. Congrats to him and also a good thing for State for many reasons.

  18. JEOH2 07/20/2011 at 5:35 PM #

I’ve read the articles posted but…excuse my ignorance…what exactly does this board do? And how does this benefit us? Networking? Positive press?

  19. rtpack24 07/20/2011 at 9:15 PM #

NABC is the national assoc of basketball coaches. The board is elected by their fellow coaches. They interact with the NCAA from rule changes and policy to numerous other areas that effect college basketball. Free pub for us and a nice tribute to Coach Gott to have just rejoined the ranks a few short months ago. This is a good thing from every angle. It is ironic that one of the departed board members is Gary Williams.
