While NC State did not win any ACC titles this year and still ranks towards the bottom of the ACC and fellow BCS schools in the Directors’ Cup rankings, it does appear that in Debbie Yow’s first season as AD there has been improvement in our athletic department’s performance as a whole (at least as defined by the Directors’ Cup) by tying for the 3rd biggest improvement by a BCS school in the standings. I think we are all looking forward to seeing even more improvement in the future.

I hope this trend continues but my feeling is that DY was picking low hanging fruit. The next few years will decide if she has the management skills.

The fact that she put all coaches/staffs on notice upon arrival that she expected positive results may have been a factor in recharging some coaches’ competitive juices…

Hope this trend continues at this pace !

Suppose the Director’s Cup made integrity part of the evaluation too, and an NCAA Major Infraction meant something like 3 years off the list…then it’s bye-bye #2 Ohio State, #3 Cal, #6 UNX, #9 FSU….

Kudos to Stanford…no Major Infractions ever & 17 year reigning Director’s Cup champion.

IMHO, we have already achieved the kind of improvement I expected after 2 years, not after just 1 year.

We’ll need a few more years before saying that we have improved. We were 74’th in 2008/2009 but we were all the way up at 56th in 2007/2008. Comparing two years alone does not make a trend.

I’ll wait two more years before I make any kind of decision on trends.

Echoing the kudos to Stanford. Everything sequoyah said above, plus the fact that they seriously blew away the field. The total points difference between #1 Stanford and #2 OSU is greater than the difference between #2 OSU and #11 UCLA.

Agree with Prowling Woofie that she set the tone and standard for the athletic department, which one would hope and expect her to do. It shows leadership. I hope she has ensured the the coaches and department know and buy-in with the standard. We’ll know that by their actions and her’s if they don’t. If they know she’ll back up her words with actions and not make excuses, then there will be no issues or infractions. From where I sit, it appears they are in line with her standards and that will lead us to improved athletics. We’ll know for sure by her actions if and when there are accusations of wrong doing.
