If UNC avoids an LOIC I’d be curious for the NCAA to provide examples of how you get LOIC. I mean, that’s what we got nailed for w/ V – because our players were selling shoes and comp tickets.

However, your players can post their violations on twitter, you can have an assistant as a de facto runner, you can have a player kicked off your team, now a runner, hanging out in your locker room, you can have a tutor – dismissed for becoming too close to your players – providing illegal benefits – none of which is self-reported…and you’ve got institutional control?????

    What am I missing?

  2. Pack78 06/04/2011 at 10:07 AM #

^The missing piece here is that this was written by the main mod at Idiot Central-and it will be over by Friday…

Dang, what a video! Make sure to watch it everyone!

We we we we so excited!
    We so excited.

Why couldn’t the girls have gone for a ride in that dude’s SUV? I should have directed that thing.

Anyway, Barnes saying no loic is a head s scratcher. I’ll wait til the letter arrives to comment.

  4. WTNY 06/04/2011 at 11:00 AM #

Well, at least the IC moderator set expectations the right way:
    * If, as he suggests, no LOIC, then rabid anti-UNC fans have had some time to ponder this so they won’t jump off the bridge.
    * If he is wrong and they get LOIC, then rabid pro-UNC fans had false expectations and they WILL jump off the bridge.

Not certain if this has ever been posted, but here is a link to what LOIC actually is. I can’t see where unx has been involved in more than 5 of these 8 actions that exhibit LOIC.

  6. wolfpacker 06/04/2011 at 11:09 AM #

Then again, that link was intended for the pac-10 and unx doesn’t count and is exempt from any rules – the carolina way

For whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.

  8. Wolf1975 06/04/2011 at 12:11 PM #

“A head coach fails to create and maintain an atmosphere for compliance within
the program the coach supervises or fails to monitor the activities of assistant
    coaches regarding compliance.”

seems pretty clear cut to me…

    thanks for the link wolfpacker

  9. MP 06/04/2011 at 12:17 PM #

Yeah, they definitely have #8 covered. Just gotta find 4 more.

And that video is AWESOME! Yesterday was Thursday and tomorrow is Saturday. Simple, yet eloquent.

“#5 The institution fails to make clear, by its words and its actions, that those personnel who willfully violate NCAA rules, or who are grossly negligent in applying those rules, will be disciplined and made subject to discharge.”

Blake wasn’t discharged or disciplined. He resigned to avoid being a distraction and was given a $75k parachute.

Disappointing but not surprising. When you have been a State fan as long as I have you come to expect unc to have a horeshoe up its ass.

  12. wolfpacker 06/04/2011 at 1:21 PM #

just when you thought unx was an acronym for university of national champions you find out that it is actually an acronym for university of noncompliant cheaters

^Packman97 and this should not be overlooked by any of the media or the ncaa – if butch had only known, he thought the guy was honest. How did everyone else in the history of college football know blake was a cheater?

As I have said before, Top-Down Destruction – Thorpe, Baddour, and Butch all three are a joke and at least Ohio State is more concerned about the reputation of their university than winning football games. The cheaters haven’t even made it yet, but boy they are willing to do whatever it takes and the bog and administration will back them up. What a joke, the entire bog, unc administration, and the acc.

  13. wolfpacker 06/04/2011 at 1:25 PM #

Let’s not forget that unx DID notify the ncaa of the academic problem. HOWEVER, IT CAME AFTER OR UPON THE NCAA’s VISIT. Not trying to hide anything there…they had known about the problem for quite sometime. While it may not have been a year, it was at the very least a few months old.

These clowns are a joke and they have tried their best to cover their tracks, like little kids getting caught. Unfortunately they aren’t being held accountable, yet.

  14. choppack1 06/04/2011 at 1:38 PM #

wolfpacker – I think they were in the same room when the story broke – and it directly in the investigation. Hard to call that self-reporting.

  15. wolfpacker 06/04/2011 at 1:49 PM #

    ^choppack1,

I was being facetious and trying to give them a break, everyone has been so rough on them LOL

  16. choppack1 06/04/2011 at 2:02 PM #

OK. I still don’t know how they don’t get LOIC – but then again, the way the NCAA operates, I think that’s probably likely.

Several months ago – I said the case to watch was UConn. It was very similar to UNC – and pretty serious. UConn lost some scholies and is on probation, but that’s about it…oh yeah, they cut down the nets this year.

It’s a joke – I don’t know what USC did to piss off the NCAA – but pretty much the unwritten rule is – if you want to win, cheat. Then offer tepid cooperation from your top leadership – and you’ll skate w/out damaging sanctions.

Metal Version of Rebecca Black’s Friday.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi00ykRg_5c

Definitely an assault on ears, but I hope this is what the UNX hears.

  18. BureauOfMines 06/04/2011 at 2:51 PM #

So why is UNC “expected to avoid a lack of institutional control charge”?

  19. HPWolf 06/04/2011 at 3:25 PM #

I surely hope the NCAA deals out a fair ruling on this. The punishment must fit the crime. There must be at a minimum a 3 year post season ban, 15 scholarships lost per year for 4 years and no TV for 3 years. Probation for 4 years. Anything short of this is a lack of NCAA control. UNC has been corrupt for 30 plus years that I directly know of, maybe longer. The double standards and media protection is sickening. I’ll call it even when all buildings within a radius of 5 miles of Kenan are burnt to the ground and razed. The earth is leveled and salted. Then on my way to State football games I’ll stop and take a piss where UNC Chapel Hell once stood. Just sayin!

  20. State Fan 06/04/2011 at 4:06 PM #

That’s harsh, HPWolf. It’s a nice location, it’s just the occupants who are bad. I suggest neutron bombing.

  21. albunde6 06/04/2011 at 4:38 PM #

Would be a litte easier on the scholarships lost, 10 to 15 would make me happy for 3 years. No TV for 2 to 3 years. However, this is just a dream, they will skate. They are the University of NC. This will suck, but “money talks and bullsh-t walks”.

  22. wolffpride 06/04/2011 at 5:05 PM #

I would hate to see UNC get off, so I am remaining optimistic and am hoping that the NCAA hits them with a few punches. But the truth is, UNC sucks at football anyway. If they were any good then this whole situation would be a lot more impacting. Who cares about UNC football, there fans obviously don’t. This is more about the University getting off than the football team. No matter what happens, I hope we beat the sh-t out of them this year. If there are any players reading this then I truly hope you rape UNC, set every ACC record you can short of killing a player on the field. The NCAA may not be able to demoralize them but we sure can. GO PACK!!!!

  23. HPWolf 06/04/2011 at 5:17 PM #

State Fan, neutron bombing would allow us to move right in and say set up a wild wolf preserve stocked with sheep but I was hoping for a nice salt flat where we could take our grand children one day to fly a kite and tell the the great story of how good triumphed over evil.

  24. phillypacker 06/04/2011 at 5:58 PM #

    1. Holden Thorpe: is in so far over his head. How in the world is he the chancellor? He takes complete responsibility for this fiasco and he should resign in disgrace before he is fired.

    2. Dick Baddour: ditto. See above.

    3. Butch Davis: thinks we are all stupid with his BS “I knew nothing” defense. How dumb can he be to believe that anyone thinks he was not in the middle of all of this? Watergate taught us the notion of deniability, only when Butch tries it, it is ridiculous. He’s a moron besides being sleazy. He hired John Blake, Black Santa, whom he has known for decades, who was brought in by crooks like Jackie Sherrill at Mississippi State and was at the center of the U of Oklahoma scandals with Barry Switzer. Davis hired him to direct recruiting. What more of a message can you send to the nation that you are going to roll in the gutter to do whatever you have to to win?

    4. UNC football team: There are a lot of good solid guys there, but the punks who have been rolled by us four years in a row and still start fights, taunt players who have suffered season-ending injuries, strut around like idiots, may you get all you deserve.

    5. NCAA Sanctions: given their pollyanna, arrogant, better than all of the rest of us, holier than thou, hypocrisy, they should be disciplined justly even if it means crippling the program. HEY NCAA, you want to send a message to the rest of the nation? UNC football is a sewer that needs to be flushed out. Take away the majority of their scholarships for 3 years, no tv for 3, no postseason. And official letters of sanction against the chancellor, athletic director, coach and players. Is there a better example of LOIC anywhere? Only UNC could skate by without being slapped with this. It will be a miscarriage of justice if LOIC does not happen.

    6. The NC and ESPN media, many of you have been in bed with UNC forever. When will you issue your mea culpa? Never. As it has always been, it will always be. The emperor has never worn clothes and the rest of us who refuse to pretend he does, remain on the margins. But hey, the pretending does stroke the egos of NC’s power brokers and those who can benefit the most financially. Shame on you.

    7. To UNC alums, foundations, and anyone else who contributes to UNC athletics and the school in general: call the people in charge to task. Put your checkbooks away. If you are contacted by the school or the Rams Club, politely tell them they are not getting a penny until they make what is wrong right and the people involved are handled justly.

Please just for once, let them be treated like everyone else. Can anyone from SFN help me with a question:

has any mainstream media organization ever done a comparison of sanctions against NCSU for offenses supposedly committed versus the handling of UNC in similar situations?

It would be easy and the organization could either shut us State fans up or make explicit the details of this ongoing travesty. Well, folks?

    8. Roy Williams and UNC basketball: dominoes tend to fall on each other. Know what I mean?
