He looks just as foolish in that picture as we do when we have our AD drop 2 whatevers in a press conference

Gotta love Doyel taking our side for once!

I loved DY dropping the “whatever” bomb repeatedly!

Doyel defending Yow. The karma reversal continues…

Is Sweatygary inebriated and eating a chicken wing? Classic!

Can never get enough of that picture! The chicken wing is priceless!

Doyel may be defending Yow, but his comments earlier in the day yesterday set her up for those questions in the press conference. While I don’t have an issue with her saying what she did, she should not have said it during MG’s introduction our new head coach. If Doyel had not gone on his GW tirade earlier yesterday, that subject probably doesn’t come up during the presser. With friends like Doyle…

Love Debbie’s fire but she should have dropped that question for another time. It was like one of your parents getting drunk and cussing your inlaws at your wedding. It wasn’t the time or place to respond that way. Debbie is trending down quickly. She needs to disappear from the cameras and radio for a bit and do some behind the scenes work to enable good things to happen with the coaches on the mic.

Oh yeah, Gary Williams is a Richardhead. Doyell is still a dewwwsh.

Gregg Doyel needs to take it down a notch. You’re a reporter, dude. Not an athlete, or a fighter no matter how tough you talk. I’ll give Yow the leeway to say what she wants because she worked with the guy for over 15 years so if you want to deal with the friction between her and Williams that was covered so well by John “Duke-does-everything-the-right-way-please-forget-about-that-time-I-completely-sold-them-out-and-took-the-word-of-a-lying-stripper” Feinstein in the Washington Post publicly, so be it.
But for Doyel to go on the air and challenge his manhood like that? It lacks a lot of class, weather or not he’s right.

PS- If Williams ever speaks a word to Doyel without starting the conversation with a right hook then Doyel is 100% right in everything he said.

This is pretty hilarious to me.

I just copied the pic and made it my wallpaper.

I thought for sure the big story would be why Gottfried left Alabama. Was Yow not speaking tounge in cheek?

  14. wolfpack_83 04/06/2011 at 12:59 PM #

I agree that Williams is petty, vindictive… heck, you pick the adjective. However, I didn’t feel that it was appropriate for Ms. Yow to stoop to his level and address it at Gottfried’s press conference. Better to give a diplomatic PC answer to the question, let it go and just beat Maryland every now and then. Much better revenge without the “SHE SAID, HE SAID” headlines.

i have to be critical now of debbie yow — why did she write that open letter if we were going to hire a coach two days later?

if the idea was, now we’re take our time and really look around, i see the point of the letter, but if we’re going to hire a coach two days later why put out the letter at all?

and why go into the gary williams thing at the presser introducing the new coach?

i guess all i can really say about that is that if i were mike gottfried i would feel pretty low to be introduced by essentially confirming that the search was totally screwed and i was a desperation hire

i’m not pleased with yow right now.

We don’t know for sure why Gottfried left Alabama, during a season where his team was 12-7. Maybe (probably) some girl, who knows. Doesn’t matter anyway. He’s in the Pack family now and has my full support.

Yow, though, showed what a bush league type she is with those comments about GW at the presser. But we already knew that after reading that pathetic letter from the night before. Really embarrassing. Yeah, we want an AD with some courage, but how about just a little class?

  17. tann84 04/06/2011 at 1:22 PM #

People aren’t perfect. Some didn’t like Fowler for not standing up for the school and now some don’t like Yow for standing up for herself.

Lets get behind the team that we’ve rooted for all our lives. Hopefully the coach can get this team to heights we haven’t seen since the 80s.

For any goodwill earned with me for her comments in the press conference following the firing of Lowe, she lost it with the letter and yesterday’s press conference. Her frustration with the search was apparent, and she went out of her way to take the spotlight off our brand new coach and on her little feud with Gary. I also did not appreciate her excuse making and denigration of our program in the letter. I thought that she was different, but for me, at least, I was very disappointed in her.

BladenWolf: you amde it your wallpaper?!?!? Did you not see the fat trolls in the picture as well?

  20. Lock 04/06/2011 at 1:32 PM #

Still can’t believe how many people are throwing Yow under the bus for being willing to be open and up-front with Wolfpack Nation about the coaching search.

Get over yourselves, you’re not helping the whole ‘unappeasable fanbase’ label.

  21. Lock 04/06/2011 at 1:36 PM #

Denigration of our program? For stating fact? Where, exactly, was our program ‘denigrated?’ When she said that we hadn’t been to the NCAAs in 5 years? When she said we need improvement?

More like, she was willing to say the things we weren’t willing to admit to ourselves. Good for her.

Seriously, we complain for 2.5 weeks about all the false leads and ‘people with friends in high places,’ and when we finally did get some real info, because it was completely opposite to what we wanted to hear, we decided to shoot the messenger.

Whether or not the letter was a good idea, you’re reading way too much into it. She’s stated her intent to bring us back to prominence, and I’m holding her to that promise. But we have to give her the chance to fulfill it.

Just heard Yow/Williams is the subject of “Outside the Lines” today @3:00 on espn2.

  23. CannonballJunior 04/06/2011 at 2:21 PM #

Thank you Doyel, and thank you Ms Yow, for publicly saying things about that SOB Gary Williams that deserved to be publicly said.

  24. wolfbuff 04/06/2011 at 2:30 PM #

Nice bone, Gary. As for Ms. Yow’s whatevers, it was a bit unprofessional. But I liked that she addressed it head on. Should be interesting next year when GW comes to the RBC.

Honesty and foolishness can be mutually exclusive of one another – it is possible. You don’t hold a presser and constantly talk about how you’re dangling one of the best jobs in the country out there and applicants better come with their A game because we’re so great we can cherry pick from among the best of the best – and then 3 weeks later sneak out a 9 p.m. e-mail telling fans not to get their hopes up because any potential coaches would be more likely to have success coaching the Washington Generals. A five-game swing in results this season could very well have garnered an NCAA berth, and State had excellent opportunities to beat Syracuse, Arizona, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Maryland. Talent is in place and with a modicum of effort success was possible. Wake Forest is in “poor shape.” DePaul and South Florida are in “poor shape.” Ditto Indiana, Iowa, Oregon State and Arizona State. How did NC State go from a preseason top-3 ACC team to a “program in poor shape?” That’s not honesty – that’s excuse-making to cover for a poorly executed and expensive search.

And she’s not even consistent – did the search tank because the program was in poor shape or because Gary Williams was doing his part to obstruct it? She mentions the program in the e-mail but Williams in the presser.

If your kid was somewhat “athletically challenged” would you go to his Little League coach before the season started and say, “Hey, my kid really sucks so if I were you I wouldn’t even play him.” or would you say, “Hey, my kid is lagging a bit athletically, so can you work with a little bit and let me know what drills I can do with him at home to get him up to speed?” Both comments are honest, but one is useful while the other is denigrating.
