What Sidney Should Have Done Last Night

Thanks to Tim Floyd and his trip to Greenville.

Love the jackass in the Duke sweatshirt on the front row at ECU. So many jokes. So little time.

Ah just think if we had hired him when Trout wanted to, then maybe his career and our basketball program would have turned out better…

I still vote for what I suggested in the LiveBlog last night. At the last media timeout, he should have calmly walked to midcourt and taken a dump. Then just as calmly walk off the court and out of the building, never to return.

That would have been so freaking awesome.

I was waiting for Floyd, to start kicking some dirt on the officals shoes…lol

Also the typical ECU/Duke bball hybrid fan in the front row….priceless

I was @ the State/Duke game and you wouldnt believe all the cars with ECU stickers, and Duke also in the parking lot….it’s the convient fan of Duke bball, and there also those ECU/Carolina bball hybrid fans also…

How many technicals has Lowe received during his coaching tenure at NCSU? I am glad he went ahead and got one but I believe it would have been more effective earlier in the ballgame. I do not recall Lowe previously receiving a technical.

BJD…where was the Live Blog? Didn’t/don’t see it? I was at the game…but, was wondering where people were ‘talking’

  6. HBRWHAMMER 02/24/2011 at 12:57 PM #

Why did the Cop break it up? If this was baseball it would have continued until the coach said all he needed to say. What has this world come to?

^^BJD95, you worry me sometimes, but you come up with some classics.

Diclaimer: I realize State has to improve thier program as step one to start winning again, I realize that.

Rhetorical question: Does State or any other program in the league have a real chance at competing with xarolina within the ACC as long as the Hess soldiers and commander Swafford are allowed to sustain thier regime?

Remember the thread that is running on SFN now about fixing the ACC? Some say bad officiating is not a key factor……..SAY WHAT?

Yes, last night Sid should have crapped on the floor to add to the crap that was already out there in zebra suits.

We see so many Wal-Mart Carolina fans it’s easy to forget the Wal-Mart Duke fans that are out there too.

I’m glad my own brand of insane drivel still pleases the readership!

Pride led a “Cover It Live” session starting around halftime, it’s disappeared now.

With Duke, it’s an even higher percentage of WMers. They produce much fewer graduates, and ones that are much less likely to stick around after graduation.

    Awesome.

I was at the game and glad Sidney got the technical. If you’re gonna go down, go down swinging and let it all hang out.

I neglected to dvr the game, so I was unable to review some of the calls. Was Wood’s foul a legit intentional? It certainly didn’t seem like it at the game.

Also, I believe the same ref called the Lorenzo Brown ‘blocking out’ foul which appeared to be a travesty … and then said same ref called the technical. It looked to me like Zeller should have fouled out by the midway point of the second half – but of course he finished the game. And I’m thinking our guys would’ve gotten a T for hanging on the rim had they done anything similar to what Barnes had done on that one stuff back.

At least our guys showed some spunk last night and Henson and Barnes won’t just laughing in our faces the whole time. We really had a chance to take control of the game in the first half – but oh well … not meant to be. I was very proud of the effort – thought everyone left it on the floor and V-berg was definitely a scene stealer. Great minutes from him last night. Leslie and Brown had excellent games … Harrow got too tentative in the second half … he was uneasy on those free throws and pretty much everything else he was doing. Surprised Painter didn’t play with Howell being out.

Officiating seemed inconsistent and uneven, so it would have been awesome to Sidney go off in his last potential game against the holes.

  12. wufpup76 02/24/2011 at 3:10 PM #

^I don’t mean to imply that we lost b/c of refs … We lost b/c of the usuals – lack of defensive rebounding late just killed us, inability to get a good shot at crucial times, defensive rotations, etc …

But it would have been cool to see Sid really go off. Fight for yourself and your team.

  13. Prowling Woofie 02/24/2011 at 3:22 PM #

According to The Great Gminski, the intentional was called on Wood because, even though he pinned the ball with his right hand, he placed his left hand on Barnes’ shoulder. Had he kept his left hand off, it would’ve had a better chance of being a jump ball or a clean block.

Not likely, though, with that crew…

  14. BladenWolf 02/24/2011 at 3:23 PM #

If Sidney had gone ballistic last night (and I think he certainly had reason to, given the amount of bad calls and lack of defensive rebounding) it STILL would have been too little too late. That old worn-out sweater started unraveling in December – again.
At this point in the season there’s nothing left to get mad and shout about my friends. We’ve been down this road too often not to know that it doesn’t go any further than the first round of the ACC tourney. Then it’s back to watching the rest of the country play good basketball and make excuses as to why we are not there.
If Yow hasn’t already been making quiet calls and solidifying her game plan for the coaching search then shame on her.

  15. Rick 02/24/2011 at 4:20 PM #

I watched a few minutes of the game but turned to a show called “sons of guns” and found it immensely more entertaining.

Have a question….I was at the game also last night. Was listening to the WP Radio broadcast. The officiating was UGLY…very inconsistent.

I think that Coach Lowe probably deserved the technical, which he has been given before….and maybe earlier in the game.

This crew seemed to be under Roy’s control….or they were just plain LOUSY and wearing light blue underwear.

Coach Lowe did NOT lose the game last night. The young Fab Freshmen lost it. We missed Scott Wood on D after the ugly calls.

The team actually played like a team. This is the THIRD GAME where they have played like a team. Each game has been BETTER. What is missing is the MATURITY.

Maturity comes with EXPERIENCE. You gain EXPERIENCE by doing your best and improving. The team is improving. If you did NOT watch the game or listen to it, then you do NOT have any idea of how close it really was.

We had the lead, well on the BLUE team I think, by 10 points. Bad calls and TURNOVERS blew that.

CJ Leslie made a 3 pointer, which he should NOT have taken, and THEN we lost the ball….our FRESHMAN PG turned it over. The BEST FT Shooter in the ACC could NOT hit his clutch free throws.

SO, if we had not made the simple little mistakes, we probably WOULD have won.

OK…NOW, if DY is out trolling for a coach, I HOPE that she has better bait or “technique” than she did at Maryland when she was going to replace GARY WILLIAMS.

HOW MANY OF YOU “LOWE HAS GOT TO GO” posters are WILLING to go through another 4 years of NO NCAA or getting beat by Dook or UNC? Are you going to let an “up and coming” SUPER STAR coach have that luxury. This is DEFINITELY a scenario as some of the Fab Freshmen MIGHT just BOLT.

It takes up to 5 years to develop a recruiting POOL. This is OUR first year of getting talent. SO, if you lose your “rotation”, then who will replace Tracy Smith? Scott Wood will stick around….but I would NOT bet on all three of the Fab Four….and THAT is NOT a condemnation of them.

THEY came to NCSU to play for Coach Lowe so their NBA Resumes would be better. If HE leaves, then they MIGHT seek a school that develops NBA Talent. These, were, after all, HIGHLY RECRUITED. If you cancel Coach Lowe’s contract, then FORGET theirs.

SO….This is just like buying a Russian Bride. The internet pictures LOOK great….until you see her undressed, smell her breath and she passes gas during “crucial times” that leaves a blue haze in the room and you are afraid that the candles will spark an explosion.

THIS IS REALITY….we WILL go through a WORSE DROUGHT. NOW, will we be better off? Don’t know…..remember how giddy folks were over HWWNBSOHA as compared to Les…and how quickly that relationship headed to the DIVORCE lawyers. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR…..

Since we are supposedly a sadistic bunch, why not “endure” one more season….There were those that gave up on the 1983 team.

This team is showing HEART….which is a LOT MORE than I can say for some of the posters. Let them play. Quit speculating….

    The headlines don’t help….

  17. packplantpath 02/24/2011 at 4:30 PM #

“THIS IS REALITY….we WILL go through a WORSE DROUGHT.”

So, you are saying our next coach won’t make it to the NCAA’s for 5 years either? And that’s justification for keeping the one we have?

Sorry man, but no. We have seen this exact same team play, with different players mind you, for 5 years now. It’s always the same. Lazy, uninspired play with all the excuses in the world for the beginning of the season. Towards the end, they still lose but look better doing it and everybody starts talking “next year”.

Sorry, but no. I’ll be thrilled to watch a new coach lose next year. At least then I’ll have hope.

  18. packalum08 02/24/2011 at 4:38 PM #

ADVENTUROO, I understand your frustration. We’re all frustrated. It’s at the point where we’ve been bad for so long that we don’t know how and/or if we’ll get back to being relevant. The team did look better last night than they have in the earlier part of the season. However, the same could be said for many, if not all of Coach Lowe’s teams (see packplantpath’s comment). If the players choose to leave, that’s their prerogative. It’s possible/probable that CJL will leave after this year no matter what happens to Coach Lowe.

Now that we have a competent AD, I’m willing to accept her decision. If Lowe gets another year, then I’ll trust her judgment. If he doesn’t and she hires someone else, I’ll trust her judgment. She knows where the program is and where the fans want it to be. She has been evaluating the coaching staff rigorously this season (or at least I hope so). It’s in her hands, now.

HOW MANY OF YOU “LOWE HAS GOT TO GO” posters are WILLING to go through another 4 years of NO NCAA or getting beat by Dook or UNC?

Your speculation on what MIGHT happen when Sid is fired sways absolutely no one.

  20. Mike 02/24/2011 at 5:14 PM #

Did I really see that ref push Floyd? I thought I did, so I rewound it, and sure enough, looks like he did.

Also, what is with the EZU fan playing with himself at about the 45 second mark? Scary.

  21. pack44fan 02/24/2011 at 5:44 PM #

Always wait till next year. Time’s up.

  22. EdMar 02/24/2011 at 5:48 PM #

How many free-throws would that be 6 and the ball? Two for each technical?

  23. swamppack 02/24/2011 at 6:36 PM #

I’ll gladly stand by my opinion of getting a new coach. There’s no way anybody could ever convince me we need to keep Lowe. That argument is so weak my 7-yr.-old could talk you down on it.

The team is getting better, because they stayed close to a less-than-memorable tarhole club? Sendek had those same kind of supporting remarks for him even as he walked out to go to Arizona State.

  24. mak4dpak 02/24/2011 at 6:58 PM #

We are not playing horse shoes, so close doesn’t get it. It is time to step it up and find that coach, with an impressive record, who is ready for the challenge of the ACC. He is out there. Again I think Randy Bennett of Saint Marys is one of them. But no more losers, who can’t get us over the top.

  25. kyjelly 02/24/2011 at 7:04 PM #

Playing hard is not something that should stand out for a D1 team. With Sid it is a revelation when his team plays hard?
^Adeventuroo : I will gladly sign up for a new coach NOW
