NCAA BBall: Major college team scores only 41 points AT HOME

Ouch!  This doesn’t happen every night, so we thought we would mention it.

Link

Both coaches took over programs in need.  But, while playing on the road, the coach in only his 3rd year was able to best a coach in the 5th year of building his program by a 55-41 margin.

The good news for this team is that they scored 37 points last year in a conference game and were still able to qualify for a first round NIT game (which they lost).

No wonder they were selling tickets to the game for only $5.

I am very pleased to tell you that our message forums have clearly returned to ‘pre-holiday’ activity levels and the quantity and quality of conversations have hit a nice balance. Please take some time to join us and add some value to our community. Thanks!

Comments about relevancy and appropriateness of topics are a waste of our expensive bandwidth. We cover what we choose to cover. Talk about the topics, or don’t bother talking. Thanks!!

    LOL @ the herbivores.

    But according to Phish,
“the herbivores ate well ’cause their food didn’t never run”

He’s only in his 5th year. Give him a chance to get his players in there so he can establish an up-tempo. Just think if Duke had pulled the plug too early with Coach K…or UNC with Dean Smith…or Wake with Bob Staak.

I don’t follow ASU Basketball…but numbers like this stick out so much from a national perspective then it is something that is hard to ignore.

Evidently, there was a proclamation from the ASU coaching staff that they were going to be turning up the tempo this year and were selling to the fans their new up temp style.

That sounds familiar. So familiar that I don’t understand how/why some people struggle with the ‘relevance’ of topics like these.

It’s relevant, hilarious, typical and telling all at the same time.

How can you expect win when your BEST PLAYER Jamelle McMillan is injured? Come on and stop hating on the coach, hatering whiny haters. No one said he’d be good until year 6. That’s why he needed a 6 year contract! Plus, the Standford kids are really smart! If you knew anything about basketball you’d know the sky is not falling idiot chicken littles! You just don’t get the flex motion offence we run that you should get educated on! Coach gets it!

    (/end bad pp parody)

  7. foz 01/07/2011 at 10:18 AM #

Well here’s the reason for the bad record:

“The Sun Devils, back in Tempe after playing the fewest home games of any major conference school…”

Pre-emptive excuse making at it’s best.

  8. bradleyb123 01/07/2011 at 10:38 AM #

^ Yep, they were so happy to be playing at home again…… they went out and scored 41 points! 😉

Can’t wait to hear the Fox announcers expand on Herb’s “greatness.”

  10. bradleyb123 01/07/2011 at 10:44 AM #

    But a serious comment…

We don’t need Sidney to succeed (nor do we need HWSNBN to fail at ASU) in order to justify letting him walk five years ago. I point this out to people that try to say, “See! We should have kept Herb!” (sorry, I mentioned his name). No, we shouldn’t have. We may go through five more coaches before we find a great one. That has no bearing on the fact that HWSNBN was certainly NOT a great one. We needed to let him leave when he got that other offer. That wasn’t a mistake on our part. Hiring Sid may have been, or not. History will ultimately be the judge of that.

I guess what I’m saying is, we don’t really need to point fingers and laugh, as if to say “SEE! WE WERE RIGHT!”

Because we were right, regardless of what Herb does in the future. Or Sidney.

Live by the 3, die by the 3 (1 for 14 on this night), and bore the heck out of the fans passing the ball around the perimeter as the shot clock runs down. That, I do not miss.

  12. PackInsider 01/07/2011 at 11:12 AM #

^^ Tell that to Mike Gminski, Seth Davis, Tim Brando, etc. who won’t let it die. They are essentially the ONLY reason why we continue to talk about such a mediocre coach. You and I know the truth and I agree with you 100%, but try convincing other schools fans, recruits, etc. when idiots like the three I mentioned above keep rehashing an ignorant assertion.

  13. Prowling Woofie 01/07/2011 at 12:06 PM #

^ Gminski loves Herb because Herb ‘knew his place’… You notice the big tool bag never suggested Duke go after him ???

  14. wufpup76 01/07/2011 at 12:30 PM #

    ^That was funny.

And it’s just awesome to have people who ‘know their place’ and will accept mediocrity and beatdowns so that the world will exist the way certain people think it should exist.

There’s no need for revolutions or to strive for greatness or any of that. Just accept it … know your place and don’t do anything to upset the apple cart. Yeah, wonderful.

  15. StateFans 01/07/2011 at 12:34 PM #

bradleyb’s comments are fantastic and I totally agree.

I disagree that “we don’t really need to point fingers and laugh, as if to say “SEE! WE WERE RIGHT!”

Actually… WE unfortunately DO have to point fingers and scream we were right because the morons in the media keep bringing it up and keep missing the point.

  16. Pack Mentality 01/07/2011 at 12:41 PM #

Why are you posting articles about the Wolfpack team from 2003?

  17. Prowling Woofie 01/07/2011 at 1:03 PM #

    ^ LOL !

Memories so painful, they STILL hurt…

  18. MP 01/07/2011 at 1:35 PM #

Now the point of this post is not really fair. If McMillan had played they probably would have scored 45 or so.

  19. ms termeaner 01/07/2011 at 1:48 PM #

Herb is no longer our problem ,we have our own problems for sure and it is time to stop using Herb to take the blame away from Sid and what has gone on here since he became HC

  20. Hungwolf 01/07/2011 at 2:20 PM #

Give Herb time to do for ASU what he did for us. Still some passionate bball fans at ASU give Herb a few more years to suck the passion and excitement out of them. ASU still got a few teams that consider them rivals. Give Herb a few more years of convincing the fan base that no game is more special than another and kill all their rivalries. Give Herb time for other Pac 10 coaches to build their resume beating him over 80 percent of the time and they will sing his praises to the national media. Give Herb time ASU fans still honor senior day, Herb hasn’t had enough time to bench seniors on their last home game and kill the tradition of starting and playing them. Give Herb time his players haven’t had time to transfer out cause his system is over their heads, he still got time to lead the conference in player transfers which don’t count against his graduation rate. Come on people, give Herb time!

Each time I read one of these stories/threads I cannot help but ask myself, “Will this finally end the insanity?” I’m guessing the answer is, “no.” Until we Dance without him we’ll hear this yahoo’s name over and over.

D-1 men’s basketball will return to Raleigh one day. It doesn’t sound like it is in Tempe either.
