Injury report for Boston College could be worse

Our injury report has been released (link) and things look pretty good – especially for NC State…and, especially for October!

N.C. State will take on Boston College Saturday afternoon without the services of six players.

Offensive tackle Duran Christophe (ankle), cornerback Jarvis Byrd (knee), and halfback Brandon Barnes (ankle) have been ruled out for Saturday’s game according to the injury report released by the school Thursday morning.

Defensive end Sylvester Crawford (knee) and defensive backs Jesse Riley (knee) and Rashard Smith (knee) are out for the season.

Offensive tackle Mike Overgaard (elbow), is listed as probably on the report, and should see his first action since suffering the injury in the team’s second game against Central Florida.

Versatile reserve offensive lineman, Duran Christophe is new to the report, but perhaps his services will be less important based on the following two items:

  • It was a huge relief that there is no mention of starting offensive lineman, Andrew Wallace, who was taken off the field Saturday with an apparent ankle injury.
  • Additionally, we’ve been waiting to see Mike Overgaard come back.

Now that RJ Mattes is playing, this week appears to be the first week of the year that the expected starting offensive line will have its full complement of healthy players.

Jarvis Byrd is still sitting there waiting for clearance to return.  His ultimate return will be a very nice addition to our young secondary that appears to have some trouble/fears making some tackles.  We’ll keep our eyes out for his clearance and continue to keep our fingers crossed that the injury report can remain generally this clean in the future.

We’ll have much more on Boston College in the next 48 hours prior to kick-off…but, please don’t forget that we have dozens of current topics being discussed on the message boards available by clicking here.

I feel like I’m dreaming when I see the low number of injuries. Just keep it up, Pack!

Barnes and Byrd we knew about already and neither have seen the field in 2010. Christophe would be nice to have, as we could use all the quality depth we can get on the OL, but as the headline says, it could be far worse.

There really is no excuse if we lose this game…that scares me.

IMO, keep the redshirt on Byrd. He has good coverage skills but needs to get stronger.

^Agree Chucks…TOB has had a few head scratchers in his time…

You know, I’ve been as big a critic of TOB as anyone, but I do feel he has a distinct advantage over Amato in that while he has “occasional head scratchers”, Being a Pack fan under Amato meant that EVERY game was a wild card. TOB has head scratchers only because the other 90% of the time his squads are so reliable. What you see is what you get. We blew a game we shouldn’t have last week. I feel pretty good about this week (and the week after for that matter, pending the product we see on the first in two days).

No offense, SFN, but you scared the crap outta me with the way that headline is worded. Sounds like “Injury report for Boston College could be worse…than any we’ve had so far this season”, or “could be worse…by the time game time Saturday gets here”, etc.

I understand what you meant (at least now I do), but maybe “could have been worse” is a better way to phrase it. I’m not a stickler for grammar on a blog or message board, but you really “got me” on that one.

Thanks for the heart attack, LOL.

And I have to agree with NCStatePride; TOB’s teams might have head scratchers now and then, but with Amato they came so often they ceased to be head scratchers and instead became the norm. His teams became like many of his players…head cases.

The team might have layed an egg last week due to a letdown, which frankly isn’t surprising, but they were still in the game right up to the end despite that. They are ALMOST to the point where they are still capable of winning even on a WTF day, and that’s a pretty big deal.
