Must Listen: Taylor Zarzour begins new show with a bang! [Updated at 10:30am]

We’re sorry that it took us a couple of days to get this posted to the website…but, the comments and perspectives espoused in the following audio by local sports radio host, Taylor Zarzour are timeless.

This is the very first segment of Zarzour’s brand new show, “Sportsdrive with Taylor Zarzour” heard on 620 The Buzz in the Triangle. This link will take you to their website and we would ask that you would be so kind as to hit their website with a visit to show some gratitude for their generosity of allowing us to use their audio.

10:30am Update
Frumpzilla.com has jumped on the Lee Fowler discussion with a really nice synopsis piece that can be viewed by clicking here. The entry and some of the commentors are using statistics that SFN has helped generate and share with the public for years (we’re not complaining – just would appreciate a little mention sometimes).

If you visit our message boards then you saw most of these pictures in recent weeks in some of our conversations. To add one more embarrassment to the discussion that Frumpzilla could have included — all I can say is COUGAR!

Please check back with SFN in the middle of this afternoon for an entry that you are not going to want to miss.

Wow. I visit this site every day, but I don’t think I’ve ever left a comment after a post. So, I logged in just to say this:

    That. Was. Awesome.

Well that was refreshing coming from somewhere other than us.

It’s not quite the mainstream media, but preach on brother. Baby steps when it comes to the media and changing perceptions. Awesome.

Good luck to the Pack tonight in the ACCT.

Thanks for the link. There are a lot of people who need/enjoy our misfortunes for their personal/professional gratifications. Hopefully a non-complicit press will help remove that impediment to our success.

It doesn’t get much more mainstream media than a show on Capital Broadcasting’s air.

Really, they ARE the dominant media force in the area these days.

That was a great segment. Glad to hear someone else talking about this. Go Pack!!

I keep thinking – is this going out on a limb? Or does he know there’s little risk in this proclamation because something is already in the works?

Either way, not a bad way to round up some listeners!

SFN: I think that you are VERY perceptive! We are going to have a ‘big’ entry later today that asks the exact same question.

Preach it brother! That was great. Someone should send this to Dr. Randy
    Woodson.

Ah the media…one day you love’em the next day you hate’em.

This guy has done his research, I love the first reference to the “ol boy network”.

    “isn’t the idea to win?”

I love it. This was what needed to be said by someone other than disgruntled Lunatic fringe internet fans…

I keep thinking – is this going out on a limb? Or does he know there’s little risk in this proclamation because something is already in the works?

I have a “source” that knows someone on the NCSU BOT that was telling me how something WAS in the works back before the Easley scandals, and before the shake-up at the top of the NCSU administration.

The other day I asked him about Fowler, and had he heard anything about this lately? He just said that some of the big donors LOVE ole Jed. Kind of in a golfers’ brotherhood kind of way. That’s all he said about it. He didn’t leave me with a warm, fuzzy feeling that anything was in the works.

I hope it is, though. Because after next year, if the time comes to replace Sidney, I sure don’t want Jed handling it.

Wow, finally a kindred voice in the media. Keep it up Taylor, you are dead on about me and the State fans that I know.

  18. old13 03/11/2010 at 10:37 AM #

FINALLY!! Better late than never, I guess!

  19. bradleyb123 03/11/2010 at 10:38 AM #

Is it possible that some of our biggest donors are Carolina fans? We’ve had such rotten luck with ADs over the years, that I can’t help but wonder. Whoever has the deepest pockets gets to call the shots? What if the donor with the deepest pockets happens to be a fan and graduate of UNX?

It’s hard to believe athletics could stay THIS bad for THIS long without there being a FORCE behind it making it happen.

Anybody got a tin foil hat I can borrow until I finish making one of my own? 😉

  20. choppack1 03/11/2010 at 11:16 AM #

    bradbleyb – I don’t think so.

What I do think is possible is that many of these folks would rather lose doing things the right way.

They think that what we had to deal w/ in the late 80s/early 90s was much worse than the eras that followed it.

It doesn’t make much sense to me, but in North Carolina and the ACC, folks actually like to try and make the “We’re an excellent well-rounded institution” argument. These arguments aren’t really made in the other big-time conferences – especially the SEC.

  21. pman27 03/11/2010 at 11:37 AM #

Local radio guys know that you can generate State callers by either slamming our teams or picking hot button items like our AD or talking about coaches on the hot seat in basketball.

They know that Carolina callers love to talk about how wonderful UNC is, so all they have do is start espousing UNC’s virtues.

Either way, its like throwing out break to attract pigeons in the park.

I am having mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, it is great that somebody with a voice in the media is saying this. On the other hand I remember Taylor and his cohost taking the opportunity in one of their last shows when they were on in the mornings on 1080(i think) to bash state fans and talk about how irrational we are and how we are the worst fanbase in the area.

This just goes along with pman’s post above, that these guys will pretty much say anything to draw in listeners.

SFN: You have him confused with Adam Gold and Joe Ovies. That wasn’t Taylor Zarzour

No, I specifically remember it. Maybe Zarzour just played accomplice. But his show partner (don’t remember his name) was an auburn grad. He started going on and on about how when he moved here he though he would identify with state fans, and then proceded to rip state fans apart. Admittedly, I could be projecting his cohosts opinions onto Zarzour.

  23. wufpup76 03/11/2010 at 12:43 PM #

Alpha, I meant mainstream in a national coverage sense.

But we’ll take what we can get! 😉

Agree with the premise that some of this is designed to pull in listeners w/ hot button issues, but I think this is a point of view many State fans share.

  24. choppack1 03/11/2010 at 1:33 PM #

That’s a bit of a strawman. He could just as easily take the position that Lee Fowler is a great AD and get plenty of irate State callers – and get an interview w/ Lee to boot!
