We are just going to turn the The Live Blog into the post-game entry for two reasons: (1) I can’t emotionally deal with putting together a post game entry and (2) BJD’s comments in the live blog and the comments from the community are fantastic (and often times hilarious). You might as well scroll through them.

Can one really describe the magnitude of any beating when the homers on the Wolfpack radio broadcast say, “Be glad you don’t have to watch this”? (as reported on Pack Pride’s message boards during the game on Saturday)

Boston College coach Frank Spaziani is piling on the points against his old buddy, Tom O’Brien.

On fourth-and-goal from the 6-yard line, Dave Shinskie passed to Billy Flutie for a touchdown to stretch Boston College’s lead to 52-20 with 6:22 remaining. Eagles running back Montel Harris, who’s rushed for school records of 264 yards and five touchdowns, has been taken out of the game with the win safely in hand.

N.C. State hadn’t given up more than 50 points in a game since Oct. 28, 2000, in a 58-14 loss to Florida State in former coach Chuck Amato’s first season.

—————————————————————–

3:32 – The radio version of this Live Blogging will be pretty damned uninsightful. You been warned.

3:33 – One thought that I’ve been having all day is that we are fortunate to be playing this game on the road. The home fans are quite anxious (and rightfully so). A road game in a non-threatening venue takes alot of pressure off.

3:37 – Three and out for the Pack into the wind. Ruh roh.

3:40 – I hate Mack Brown, but I’m just cheering for this game to end. I’d much rather see USC face the SEC champ for the MNC, though.

3:41 – Wow, BC forced to punt. Hope we manage not to muff this one.

3:43 – Lots of excitement from the radio crew for a 3-yard catch. Thanks for getting my hopes up, Gary. Yeesh.

3:49 – 7-0 BC. Long 2 play drive. That’s more like it, Pack.

3:51 – Look on the bright side – at least we didn’t have to see it!

3:52 – Radio broadcast missed the kickoff. Good Lord. Can you say “bush league?”

3:54 – ABC graciously showing the hand shaking and ass patting after OU/Texas. Bastards. It was a shitty game. Move on, and let us watch OUR shitty game.

3:56 – I think Mack Brown almost gave Colt McCoy a tongue kiss, before settling for a neck caress and hug. Wilson scores on a sneak, game tied at 7. Maybe we’ll get to see the second half. Seriously, when have you EVER seen post-game circle jerks be televised over live scheduled games? ABC really thinks this is compelling viewing.

4:01 – Smith falls down in coverage, 60-yard TD from Shinskie. Everybody gets to be Peyton Manning for a day against State. Words can’t express how badly we suck. It was the first play viewers in the HOME CITY got to see on television, despite the noon gfame having been over for 8 minutes (plus 4 minutes of kneel downs and timeouts).

4:08 – 3rd and 1. Watch us not pick it up, then punt like morons.

4:10 – Just like I called it. So freaking predictable and pathetic.

4:16 – BC doesn’t throw downfield, and thus is forced to punt.

4:19 – Glad to see Baker being used in the passing game.

4:20 – RW gets away with an awful passing decision – should have been an easy pick.

4:22 – 4th and 2 from the 22. Easy call to go for it.

4:23 – It was an easy call, but still surprised we went for it. First down, Pack.

4:25 – I would go for it here, too. But we won’t.

4:26 – Remember this gutless decision when we’re down 28-10 at the half. I expect this will be the turning point of the game.

4:33 – Wow, Morgan with a well-timed hit breaks up a pass. There’s a first time for everything.

4:34 – State’s most effective 3rd and long defense – the blatant drop.

4:37 – Wilson makes his first really good play of the game. 1st and 10 inside the 20. Nice duck by Spencer to avoid concussion redux.

4:40 – Another stupid field goal. Very, very frustrating.

4:45 – Eagles driving against more very soft defense.

4:47 – 21-13, BC. Tailback walks into the end zone. 3 minutes left for the Wolfpack to answer. It’s critical to do so, as BC gets the ball first in the second half.

4:53 – Well, at least BC shouldn’t get the ball back with time to score.

4:55 – BC’s blitz gets picked up, but still nobody is open. Pitiful.

4:57 – Wilson overthrow is picked, BC does have enough time to score after all. Awful stuff from the awful Pack, Act III.

4:59 – 3rd and 10, BC runs up the middle. And picks up TWENTY.

5:01 – Another drop by an Eagle wideout negates a TD. Pack living on borrowed time. And barely living.

5:06 – No way was BC set before the clock kill. But no flag, and the field goal is…good. 24-13 is your halftime score. I’m pretty disgusted, and second half updates might be a bit less regular (I also have a headache).

5:31 – Third and long, no coverage or pressure by the Pack. Lather, rinse, repeat. This season is over, folks. We’re just playing out the string at this point.

5:34 – Third and four is converted easily, for some variety.

5:38 – 2nd and goal from 10 (after our first Willie Young sighting), BC runs up the middle untouched for six. Today, we aren’t even getting into position to miss tackles. We just stand around holding our nads. 31-13. Glad we got those field goals back when this was a semi-competitive game.

5:50 – 38-13 now. Yes, it was possible to play worse than we did against Duke. I may pop in with a random insult here or there, but this ends the regular live blogging. Go take a walk or something.

6:02 – (By LRM) I’m gonna be really pissed if all those BC fans were right about TOB. (Sorry BJD, I couldn’t resist)

As the eternal optimist, I’m actually looking forward to the game. Now, that might change after BC’s first possession, but I get a sense BC can’t abuse our defense quite as bad as the last couple of QBs. And I expect our guys are raring to hit somebody after getting their skirts pulled up last week.

My chief concern is that Archer will blow up his run defense in an effort to stop the pass. Or that RW will drop back 50 times while we average 5 yards a rush again.

It’d be better than great to steal this one with the bye and the only defense in the league worse than ours on the other side of the annual mid-season reclamation.

  2. JeremyH 10/17/2009 at 2:58 PM #

They should be better defensively this week, if what I imagined for the defensive drills for this past week were held.

  3. LRM 10/17/2009 at 3:16 PM #

    They couldn’t be worse.

  4. 1.21 Jigawatts 10/17/2009 at 3:28 PM #

I wonder if they’ll continue their ultra super secret tackling drills that Archer started after the SoCar game. Paraphrasing a player, Everyone runs as fast as they can to the ball.

  5. Dogbreath 10/17/2009 at 3:37 PM #

Gary Hahn gets SO excited whenever the other team has a positive play.

  6. Dogbreath 10/17/2009 at 3:38 PM #

    0-7.

    goodnight guys.

  7. Noah 10/17/2009 at 3:39 PM #

Sounds like the defense has really worked the kinks out.

  8. NCSU88 10/17/2009 at 3:52 PM #

Regional Coverage, hmmmm. I’m in Memphis. Why I am seeing PSU and Minn? The live blog is hysterical. Thanks guys!

  9. NCSU88 10/17/2009 at 3:57 PM #

Any online resources? Should I even bother to try?

I’m not complaining that our game is being televised somewhere besides ESPNU today, but did anyone notice that while the Pack and BC were trading TDs, we were having to watch the end of the Texas-Oklahoma game and the post-game celebrations, with no alternative? While this was going on, the other 3 ABC regional games were being shown from the beginning: Penn State on ESPN, Nebraska on ESPN2, and Cal on ESPN Classic. All but our own regional game was on.

I’ve got DirecTV’s sports package, we’ve got satellite technology second to none, yet these bozos cannot show us our own game on another channel until the main game finishes. Almost a whole quarter gone.

What is the problem with ABC television sports?

  11. ncsufan13 10/17/2009 at 4:00 PM #

NCSU88 if you don’t have it regionally, you can watch it on espn360

  12. NCSU88 10/17/2009 at 4:05 PM #

Thanks 13. We don’t have espn360. 29.95 for one day. A bit steep to suffer through. I think I’ll watch UVa at MD on ESPNU and follow the blog. Lots of empty seats in College Park and it’s Homecoming there. That’s sad.

Except for the color of the uniforms the opponent is wearing, this is pretty much a replay of the last two weeks. BC obviously made good use of their film sessions this week.

Oh, look at that…a sack. Nice effort there at least.

  14. 1.21 Jigawatts 10/17/2009 at 4:05 PM #

I’m especially loving the overpersuing to the player to get the big hits and getting nothing but air. Glad we’ve been working on those tackling drills.

Maybe what we need is for Bobby Boucher to come to practice and introduce them to “Tackling Fuel”.

NCSU88, you are in luck because I do! I just made an account and sync’d it with 360 for remote access so that you can watch. Just go to espn360.com and sign in with the account: SFN360 password: statefans, let me know if that works for you.

Thanks 13. I am in, but I think it is through my COMCAST account. I didn’t know that 360 came with COMCAST. If it is a cruel trick to tease me I’ll try your login. Thanks!

  19. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:18 PM #

Really? On 4th and 6, you’d go for it? Sorry, but being down 14-10 is much better than being down 14-7.

  20. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:19 PM #

Good coverage on the kickoff. Good sign, I hope!

  21. StateofthePack 10/17/2009 at 4:20 PM #

Pack with an 8 minute time of possession edge on BC but trails 14-10 in the 2nd quarter. Thanks to 2 50+ yard plays for BC taking advantage of our very accomplished defense.

  22. Alpha Wolf 10/17/2009 at 4:22 PM #

Wilson is really trying to force the ball today. I worry about a pick six the wrong way.

  23. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:23 PM #

That time of possession edge can help us later in the game. Just keep it close and wear ’em out, Pack!

  24. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:24 PM #

Third and long. We haven’t had enough of those lately. Hold ’em, Pack!

  25. bradleyb123 10/17/2009 at 4:25 PM #

    4th down Sweet!
