Anthony Hill

The Texans’ complemented their current pass-catching tight end (Owen Daniels) with Anthony Hill who was considered by some to be the best blocking TE in the draft.  Hill joins Wolfpacker Mario Williams on an improving club who went 8-8 in one of the toughest divisions in football.  The Texans offense finished in the Top 10 last year despite an injury to starting QB Matt Schaub, so the club appears to be filling defensive holes with their other picks in the draft.

Andre Brown

Andre Brown was drafted by one of the NFL’s stronger teams in recent years.  NFL.com said: “Brown is a steal at this point in the draft. He really made a name for himself at the Senior Bowl and flashed outstanding skills. He’s got receiving talent and gives the Giants a great replacement for Derrick Ward.”  The Giants chose UNC-CH’s Hakeem Nicks in the first round.  Had the Giants not drafted Brown, he could have been chosen by the San Diego Chargers just five picks later.

The Texans took another TE out of Rice in Round 5. James Casey had been projected as a 2nd round pick. Anthony Hill has his work cut out for him if he’s going to make the team.

The right third of the text in the article is cut off for me. Anyone else have a problem like that?

Apologies, apologies… another thread hijack, but how about those Vinny Del Negro led Chicago Bulls. They are making a real run at the Celtics. Way to go Vinny!

A good spot for Hill, Casey is more of a slot-TE and gadget player. Hill is a straight forward run blocker with decent receiving skills, he can make the team as a better run blocker and making possession catches when called upon. Slaton was a hit for them last year, and a TE of the Hill variety provides a more physical element to the passing game from a running set.

I hate that Brown landed on the Giants as an Eagles fan, but love it for Brown. He is the prefect mid game, third down option in the rotation they like to run, replacing Ward. A lot of teams are gonna wonder why they didn’t take a chance on him within two years.

I hate the giants, but Brown has landed with a good team and will do well with thim.

Hill should do ok with Texans. Don’t know much about his opportunity but good place to live.

Good luck to Hill and Brown. Just wondering, what do the Panthers have against drafting or signing NC State players? The Panthers took two running backs ahead of Brown. One was Goodson out of Texas A&M who was projected in the 5th round. The other was a fullback. I guess Andre would’ve looked silly anyway in their light blue jerseys.

Both players have landed in excellent situations. Houston needed a 2nd TE, especially a blocker.Casey, the other TE that they drafted, projects to be more of an H-back utilized certain packages. He is not known as a great blocker. This also works out for Hill as his family resides in Houston.

Andre will be the Giants’ replacement for Derrick Ward. He will be in the rotation with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw(assuming Bradshaw can stay out of legal trouble).

Good luck to Hill and ANDRE THE GIANT!!!

A little high for a second TE, but good luck to Hill.

agent – I’d rather Brown go to the Giants than the Panthers. The Panthers already have 2 RBs that figure in their plans for at least next year.

I think they picked up Goodson kid in hopes of him being a slot-back, returner and special teams guy. (Think 3rd down back…)

OK. After listening to why the Texans picked James Casey, I feel a lot better about Hill’s chances of making the team. Casey will be used as a backup FB, long snapper, and probably wildcat QB in addition to some work at TE. They really think Hill can block and they want him to help in the red zone in particular. This is an area where the Texans sucked last year. Third on total offense and 20+ in scoring offense.
