11/10: UNC @ State (3:00 Update – schedules officially released)

UPDATE: Full schedules for every ACC team can be found here. PackLaddie was spot on, as usual.

Dates from NC State’s 2007 football schedule have been trickling out and we highlighted them last week in this entry.

The ACCNow is reporting that Butch Davis and Tom O’Brien will face-off in Carter-Finley for the first time on November 10th. (Link)

Additionally, the Boston Globe is reporting that it is expected NC State will travel to ‘new rival’ Boston College on September 8th for State’s conference opener.

Although BC’s football schedule has not been set, the Eagles are expected to open with back-to-back home games against Atlantic Division rivals Wake Forest Sept. 1 and North Carolina State Sept. 8, marking the return of former coach Tom O’Brien

If this holds true, then the following is what we currently have pieced together for State’s 2007 football schedule. The ACC is expected to release the entire schedule before the end of the week.

Sep 1: Central Florida
Sep 8: @ Boston College
Sep 15: Wofford
Sep 27 or 29: Louisville
Oct 20: @ East Carolina, 4:30pm, CST-TV
Nov 10: UNC-CH

Additionally, our community provided the following supplement to some potential dates:

9/22 Clemson
10/6 @FSU
10/13 Open Date
10/27 UVa
11/3 @Miami
11/17 @Wake
11/24 Maryland

TOB will be highly motivated, as that is the birthday of my beloved Corps!11-10-1775

Great time of year for the BC game. Now we just need Miami in November.

You got that right Mr O. I plan to get Bosox tix for me and my son for that September game if they are at home. Not sure what to plan for Miami. Maybe Pete Lofton will host a WolfPack club Party at the Versacce Mansion.

    ^ Laddie…you are the BEST!

    Thanks so much

in looking at that schedule, the UVa game would set up perfectly for a Red/White basketball game. I hope Sid and the guys will consider tying it in with football, as opposed to the midweek deal like they had this year.

I understand that the football schedule did not really work this year, but that will not be the case next fall. They would draw a huge crowd to the RBC to see the incoming class make their Wolfpack debut.

This is not intended to start a debate on the merits of playing/not playing ECU. I did find it interesting that while UNC and State travel to ECU, UNC plays them at a constructive time (road game, hostile environment, BEFORE ACC season) while State plays them at just about the least opportune time (road game, hostile environment, against battle tested team, late in the season, in game they more than likely will be extremely motivated to win).

    Was this Fowler’s doing?

  8. Dr. BadgerPack 01/24/2007 at 8:50 AM #

^ My antecedent was unclear in the last parenthetical note above. I meant ECU…will be… motivated.

  9. burnbarn 01/24/2007 at 9:21 AM #

10-13 is a good time for an open week too.

Over the last few years i have thought our open week did not fall at a particularly advantageous time.

  10. BoKnowsNCS71 01/24/2007 at 9:22 AM #

I believe the 10/20 game is @ECU — references above seem to imply it’s a home game for us.

Badgeroack — I would think that this is more a problem of juggling schedules versus a desire to play later.

And true – ECU will be motivated — they always are against an ACC team. They actually thought that when the ACC was expanding that ECU would be brought in. That would never happen. Other ACC schools don’t want 5 teams from NC and especially one that brings in such a small viewing market.

  11. BoKnowsNCS71 01/24/2007 at 9:23 AM #

Burn — For NC NASCAR fans 10/13 is also the date for the Lowes Race in CHarlotte so that open date is good for NCSU NASCAR fans.

  12. Dr. BadgerPack 01/24/2007 at 9:35 AM #

Bo- I would think/hope the schedule juggling is the problem as well, but given the recent track record, you never know.

It would also be nice if the open date was before a conference game. Two weeks to prepare for ECU, eh, not overly excited about that. Heck, I wouldn’t care if the open date was before Lousville.

So we did get Miami in Nov. Still have never been to FSU, but Tallahassee is a horrible destination in terms of logicistics. Not many hotels, they require multiple night stays, and there is no reason to stay multiple nights in Tallahassee(at least that I know of). Probably will skip it again this year and instead go to Boston and Miami.

Master: Are the baseball schedules out yet? Anyone around here know Pete?

  14. Evroccck 01/24/2007 at 10:43 AM #

isnt the ECU game Sept 8th, i thought the N and O reported that UNC went to ECU oct 20th.

SFN: Evidently the N&O had the State & Carolina dates inverted in their story.

  15. kool k 01/24/2007 at 10:44 AM #

I’m glad someone mentioned the Tallahassee hotel problem. Plan on staying in Jacksonville or coming out of your pockets if y ou haven’t booked a room yet.

  16. BoKnowsNCS71 01/24/2007 at 11:04 AM #

Evroccck — Per the Carolina web page they play ECU on 9/8. N&O probably wrong. Carolina’s Future Football Opponents — note home and aways with ECU same as for us.

I never thought that the racing issue was a legitimate consideration. I now completely understand it and think that we should try to avoid games on race weekend and State Fair weekend each year.

  18. Mr O 01/24/2007 at 11:49 AM #

    Race weekend?

  19. packpigskinfan23 01/24/2007 at 11:58 AM #

PLEASE no game on State Fair weekend again!!!!!! that is always horrible…. always.

  20. packbackr04 01/24/2007 at 12:01 PM #

    this from the N&O

“With Skip Holtz returning for his third season, East Carolina doesn’t have a new football coach. But the Pirates have something new to sell — home games against Carolina (Sept. 8) and State (Oct. 20) in the same season — and anticipate a healthy spike in ticket sales.

“It’s a great situation for us,” said Scott Wetherbee, ECU’s assistant athletics director in charge of ticketing and marketing. “Having both in the same season-ticket package is going to help us in several areas. We’re going to kick off our campaign earlier this year, too.”

nothing like making your friends a little money, right Lee?

  21. BoKnowsNCS71 01/24/2007 at 12:03 PM #

SFN – Thats’ what they did but I’m sure it was not intentional. The State Fair is October 12 –21 and NCS has an open date 9/8 and the ECU away game 9/20.

The NASCAR race isn’t really a consideration — but some of us do like racing. State games have always taken precedence though.

  22. BoKnowsNCS71 01/24/2007 at 12:07 PM #

and SFN is there any way you can make it so that the number eight does not show up a the emoticon when someone types in an 8 (number)?

  23. lush 01/24/2007 at 1:39 PM #

    8

  24. lush 01/24/2007 at 1:39 PM #

just wanted to see if that worked

Does Duke not rotate on our ACC schedule this year.? We have not played them the last three years. How can we go four years and not play them? We have played everyone else at least once from the other division in the last three years. Just wondering, does anyone know for sure? How can everyone else in the conference get the automatic W by playing Duke in a four year time spam except us. Of course unless the “commiss” is from your rival. In looking at the schedule you guys have projected I’m guessing around a 6-6 year. What does everyone else think?
