Harrison Beck Leaving Nebraska

A couple of years ago, Harrison Beck was one of the most highly recruited quarterbacks in the country out of Florida. In fact, Beck played for Jay Davis’ father in high school.

NC State was very close to landing Beck out of high school before he committed to play in the West Coast Offense at Nebraska.

SI is reporting what we knew to be true earlier in the week – Beck has decided to leave Nebraska.

…interesting….

So we could sit out this year and compete next year. It really sucks that we’re wasting Burkes redshirt this year. They (Beck & Burke) are essentially now in the same class now, so it would be very interesting to see if this could be the beggining of a future QB competition in Raleigh.

Well, why did he leave? Playing time? If so, just another recruiting service hero who didn’t translate into reality?

Or is there another issue? We can always use another quarterback, if he’s the right sort.

Lincoln Star Journal blog claims Beck to Louisville according to his myspace page, but his high school coach denies this:

Beck to NC State, per ESPN news, apparently.

Now the link shows him attending NCSU
It’s weird because his mom mentioned in an interview that he should’ve gone to the SEC from the getgo, but it appears we’ve got another QB on our hands. I just don’t know…I would like to get excited, but to be honest with you I really just want to see Daniel Evans get some p.t.

They would not be in the same class. Beck will have 3 years left after this season. Burk will have 4.

Yes, he’s officially attending NCSU and can begin practice as soon as tomorrow. He was in Raleigh Friday taking care of all the paperwork and formalities.

Just some info per rivals.com, Beck was a 4-star QB last year and rated as the #3 Pro Style QB in that class. He seems to like the West Coast offense which is the system that Trestman runs so hopefully he can make some noise in the following years. I would not be surprised if he gives Stone a run for his money and Burke will have to work extra hard now with the competition around him. It’s been a while, but for once we seem to be loaded at both QB and RB for the future.

Dexter – we haven’t wasted Burke’s redshirt year yet.

    (1) Beck would be a So next year and Burke would be a R-Fr if he is redshirtted.

    (2) Would Beck’s presence provide us the lattitude to actually use Burke this year in the event that Stone struggles?

You can never have enough quality QBs. Does this transfer affect Wilson’s commit at all?

Seems like I heard a couple of days ago about his Mother in the papers claiming he was way better than Zac Taylor, their starter. Anyone else hear this?

As a diehard husker fan I am bummed to see the kid leave NU. He was performing well during the spring and was having to compete instead of having the backup job handed to him. Hopefully this situation will mature him and that he will be a productive qb for you guys!

If you want to read a little more indepth about the beck situation go to http://www.omaha.com There is a big red page and they have a little more depth to the situation. There are a couple of statements in articles that his mother made to the press.
