Memphis Could Have Avoided This Mess

In most cases if John Calipari were to stay quiet for this long, someone might want to shove a cell phone under his nose to see if he showed any signs of life.

This is different. There can be only two reasons why he has maintained public silence for such a long period:

1) He’s seriously considering becoming the head coach at NC State, but it’s a tough decision because of the great team he’d be leaving behind;

2) He’s torturing the Memphis administration with a long wait because certain people were foolish enough to believe he couldn’t/wouldn’t leave for another job.

    ……everything has its price and I’m afraid Cal’s long term price will be a dose of this every year…..evidently he is currently meeting with Memphis officials who are presenting their offer…..it’s feeling more and more like we are simply being used as a strraght man in a comedy act – again…..but a couple of wins in the right arenas may pay for it…..

    If it is number 2 I would think he is making the wrong people mad. He is also “poisoning the water” for future job opportunities.
    I do not know what is going on, but I really want him for our coach. But I bet we will have to put up with this same stuff year after year.

    Now here is some real third party info…my UPS man…who is a hugh NC State fan shared that John Calipari’s Wife is in Raleigh looking at houses…the men in Brown say this is fact!

    I think in the bottom of his heart, DeCourcy would prefer NC State to not have a top-rank coach. Too many times has DeCourcy poo-poo’d State’s program, too many times he’s said it would be impossible to compete with the Holy Duke and Sainted UNC.

    Frankly, I think DeCourcy is a coward afraid of stiff competition. From reading his writings through the past couple of years, he has a squeaky whining voice that utter nothing but loser’s phrases.

    In fact, DeCourcy reminds me a lot of the Bill Paxon role in Aliens. Remember the coward dude that kept freaking out and saying “man, we’re gonna DIE in here!” That’s DeCourcy.

    Yeah, Mike, we might die in here, but you know what, we prefer to fight to the end like MEN of honor.

    It is no coincidence that we are talking about DeCourcy and “Brown” (as in ‘yellow is mellow, brown goes down”) in the same thread…

    FYI…DeCourcy used to cover the University of Memphis, before taking his current gig with TSN. He also served as an unofficial intermediary when Memphis was considering hiring Calipari. So DeCourcy is probably a pretty good resource right now – much better than Kornheiser, Katz or some other “national” types.

    Is there any coincidence that the airplane 74 asked us to track earlier this morning is leaving Memphis to go to Louisville? Or is it a blind?
